Barriers And Challenges To Implementing Telehealth Among Physicians And Advanced Practice Nurses In The United States, Mohammad Einolghozati

Health Informatics Student Papers and Projects

A recent Medscape survey among physicians to assess their attitudes toward telemedicine showed that physicians have some concerns regarding telemedicine including liability and reimbursement (Cranford, 2016). Among nurse practitioners, credentialing, reimbursement, patient privacy and the use of appropriate equipment are some of the most critical issues with telemedicine (Balestra, 2018). Healthcare providers play a crucial role in telehealth adoption because their decision to use telehealth is the first step towards the emergence and sustainability of telehealth networks.

The objective of this review is to examine the various barriers and challenges physicians and advanced nurses experience when implementing telemedicine in the …

Background: There are no evidence-based standards for if/when developmental interventions should be initiated while an infant is in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), or these services yield incremental benefit. To support future prospective studies evaluating the neurodevelopmental benefits of NICU-based services as well as standardizing protocols for developmental interventions in the NICU, a thorough descriptive investigation of current developmental intervention practices is necessary. Objective: To describe trends in the delivery of developmental interventions [physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), speech-language therapy (ST), child life (CL), and music therapy (MT)] in high-risk infants in a large level-IV NICU. Methods: Electronic …

Evaluation Of A Competency-Based Health Policy Training Program, Jim P. Stimpson, Kathleen Brandert, Brandon Grimm, Fernando A. Wilson

Reports: Center for Health Policy

An academic and practice partnership was formed to create and implement a competency-based training program for local health departments in health policy. We evaluated if the training program improved the policy knowledge and competency of participants.

Participants exhibited significant increases for self-assessed policy competency, including substantial improvements in “Critique the feasibility and expected outcomes of potential policy options”, “Identify and assess the strengths and motivations of key stakeholders and potential resistors”, and “Recommend a specific policy change”.

The policy competency instrument developed in this report could be used to measure policy knowledge and competency in future training implementations.

Purpose: One in 7 children ages 2-8 have a behavioral, mental or developmental diagnosis. The prevalence of mental health disorders increases in adolescence to over 20%. Only 36% of youth who have a mental health disorder in their lifetime receive treatment. School-based services can address barriers to care. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency and indication of referrals for students to 19 hospital-employed clinical social workers placed within a school district during one academic year (2017- 2018) and how the indication varies with level of schooling.

Methods: Students were referred to social workers by self, classmates …

Mission:

To collect and report complete, high-quality, and timely population-based cancer data in Louisiana to support cancer research, control, and prevention.

To reduce suffering and death from cancer using information collected by the Louisiana Tumor Registry.

Cancer registration in Louisiana began in 1947 at the Charity Hospital Tumor Registry in New Orleans. In 1974, as part of its Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program, the National Cancer Institute provided funds for a population-based cancer incidence and survival registry covering Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard parishes. Five years later, the Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) was transferred to the …

Economic Implications Of Tobacco Use For The State Of Nebraska Government, Fernando A. Wilson, Nizar K. Wehbi, Ali S. Khan

Reports: Center for Health Policy

We examine smoking-related expenditures for the state Medicaid program and for lost productivity among state government employees. The predicted number of new diagnoses of smoking-related illnesses among government employees ranged from 109 cases of kidney disease to 856 cases of arthritis and related diseases. We estimate over 6,000 lost workdays due to sick leave among currently smoking vs. non-smoking employees. Smoking-related illness is estimated to increase state budgetary expenditures on Medicaid by approximately $114.9 million annually.
