Transfers are high-risk. Intra-hospital transfer processes research has improved protocols used nationally.1 Outside-hospital admissions remain without standards ensuring the transfer of the right information to the right clinician at the right time; presently, patients can arrive at a new hospital with limited-to-no information.2We trialed a novel process for outside (hospital, provider, or skilled nursing facility) admissions to a single academic medical center’s resident and- hospital-medicine-attending-based (“teaching”) medicine services.

Theorizing The Social Determinants Of Breast Cancer In Sub-Saharan Africa: A Family Health Nursing Perspective, Rosemary W. Eustace, Tumaini Nyamhanga, Eunice Lee
Seminars in Local and Global Regional Economies
The aim of this presentation is to discuss the theorizing process of a Family Health Strength-Based Socio-Ecological Model of Breast Cancer in Sub-Saharan Africa and the model’s meaning to family nursing practice. The major purpose of theorizing this model is to explore the social determinants of breast cancer within and external to the family system. The model is developed based on key realities inductively generated from integrated and empirical evidence on breast cancer in the region. Understanding the social contexts of health from this multilevel holistic systems approach offers nurses opportunities to prioritize research and interventions in disease prevention and …

The objective of this presentation is to study the in vivo actions of ribosome recycling factor (RRF) and compare them with those found in vitro. RRF is known to catalyze three separate reactions: release of tRNA and mRNA from the post-termination complex (PoTC), and splitting of the ribosome of the PoTC. To study the mechanism of RRF reaction in vivo, we used E. coli harboring temperature sensitive (ts) RRF and assayed by following downstream reading of translationally coupled ORF. At the non-permissive temperature, ribosomes remain on the termination codon of the junction sequence of coupled ORFs and translate downstream ORF …

A Horseshoe Kidney With A Unique Constellation Of Renal Vasculature - A Case Report, Guiyan Zhang, Richard Schmidt
Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology Posters
Horseshoe kidney with variable vascular supply is of interest to clinicians and anatomists due to its immense surgical significance. A horseshoe kidney encountered during cadaveric dissection is reported here. The left kidney is vertical and the right kidney is slightly horizontal. The isthmus is narrow and 1.5cm inferior to the inferior mesenteric artery. The hilum of the right kidney opens anteriorly and the left opens anteromedially. The ureters lie on the anterior surfaces of both kidneys. In addition to renal arteries arising from the aorta described in previous reports, a unique renal artery (Renal Artery 3) was found supplying the …

Assessment Of Trends In Population-Based Health Indicators In The Great Plain States, Jessica Pahwa, Shinobu Watanabe-Galloway
Posters and Presentations: College of Public Health
Purpose/Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the geographic trends and to highlight the importance of social and geographic based health disparities using population health indicators and Health determinants among the great plains states (Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota).
Methods/efforts: Online databases (CDC, BRFSS, America’s Health Rankings, SAMHSA, County health rankings etc) were accessed to collect data population-based data for the great plains states. The incident rates of 10 health indicators and health determinants were chosen and studied. After tabulating the data in excel, the analysis was made through plotting graphs in SAS. Line graphs depicting the …

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Posters
Objective: Recent studies on conversion of ASIA Impairment Scale (AIS) grades report higher rates of conversion than older studies. The purpose of this study is to examine the rate of conversion over time in persons with ASIA Impairment Scale (AIS) grade A spinal cord injury (SCI), accounting for level of injury.
Methods: Subjects were injured between 1995 and 2015, enrolled in the National SCI Database as Day-1 admissions, at least 16 years old at the time of injury, classified as AIS A, and had an initial examination within 2 weeks of injury. Change in AIS grade was determined for …

- Antimicrobial use is a crucial element of patient care but their overuse and misuse have detrimental effects including the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
- Nurse empowerment and engagement has resulted in improvements in many quality initiatives including enhanced patient safety in the areas of Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI), Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) and pressure injuries (Carter, 2016).
- Enhancing nurse empowerment in AS may be effective in reducing antibiotic misuse.
- The purpose of this study is to implement an educational program engaging nurses in AS activities and determining the effect of this educational intervention on the knowledge …

The Effects Of Therabands On Collegiate Pitchers Rotator Cuff, Caleb Bissette
EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters
This study looks at the effects that the rab and shave on the strength and mobility in the dominant rotator cuff of a collegiate pitcher. Collegiate pitchers should strengthen their rotator cuff muscles in order to prevent injuries. Injuries to the rotatorcuff could be season-ending and require surgery for repair. In order to prevent a pitchers chances of getting surgery, they need to find away to strengthen those muscles and make them more mobile. Therabands are a great way to increase strength and mobility in the rotator cuff.

Food tracking has become an increasingly more popular method for individuals seeking to make changes in their dietary habits. According to Skinner et al., food tracking has proven its credibility,as individuals seem much more likely to initiate positive dietary changes when they are recording their daily food intake. Having said this, further knowledge is needed to allow individuals to make significant positive dietary changes. Specifically among at risk populations such as female college athletes. According to Skinner et al. increases in nutrition knowledge may result in significantly more desirable attitudes toward nutrition among female athletes (Skinner et al.,2001).

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters
The purpose of this study is to determine the level of correlation between the FMS and YBT assessments. The literature says that these two assessments have a moderately positive correlation (Koçak et al. 2019). The hypothesis of this study is that the FMS and YBT assessments will have a moderately positive correlation.

The Effectiveness Of Ankle Braces On Functional Movement Screening And Ankle Joint Range Of Motion On Collegiate Division I Volleyball Players, Maya Jeffcoat-Troy
EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters
The purpose of this research is to examine the effectiveness of ankle braces on functional movement and ankle joint range of motion on female Division 1 collegiate volleyball players. The data will be analyzed to determine if ankle braces impede or help functional movement and ankle joint range of motion. It was hypothesized that ankle braces will not affect overall functional performance but will have an effect on ankle joint range of motion and lower body kinematics.

EXSI 432/532: Research Methods in Exercise Science: Research Proposal Posters
The purpose of this study is to expand the known effects that energy drinks have on an aerobic exercise performance and explore a new population of female soccer midfielders through the use of a Wingate test. It is hypothesized that the consumption of an energy drink prior to a Wingate an aerobic test would result in overall better an aerobic performance, specifically with increased power and a lower fatigue index.

The curriculum of a four-year degree RN-BSN Nursing Student is not one of mere science and theory. Beyond these vital sciences are the even more essential courses involving critical thinking, creativity, self-reflection, and cultural immersion. Where the “RN” portion of the four-year student’s education teaches the individual what to do to be a nurse, the “BSN” portion teaches the individual how to get there. Much like a nurse is expected to focus on the whole patient rather than simply the patient’s disease, that is how the RN-BSN degree acts; that is, the RN-BSN student is not just taught how to …
