Factors That Determine The Place Of Childbirth In Lagos State, Nigeria, Ohiemi Emmanuel Adegbe
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractNigeria is among the 10 countries in the world with the worst maternal mortality. Though most of these deaths can be prevented using antenatal care (ANC) and having institutional deliveries, in Nigeria, ANC attendance and institutional delivery are suboptimal. Research is lacking on the reasons for the disparity between the use of antenatal services compared to deliveries at health centers. The aim of this study was to determine the associations between sociodemographic, obstetric, and health service factors and the place of delivery used by pregnant women in predominantly urban, cosmopolitan Lagos, Nigeria. Because both service delivery and demand factor categories …

There is limited research on how master’s-level counselors experience providing mental health services in correctional settings and how they manage challenges. The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand the lived experiences of master’s-level mental health counselors working with offenders in correctional settings. A hermeneutic phenomenological approach was used to facilitate an understanding of …
Service-Level Factors Affecting Completion Of Antenatal Care Attendance In Uganda, Lorna Barungi Muhirwe
Service-Level Factors Affecting Completion Of Antenatal Care Attendance In Uganda, Lorna Barungi Muhirwe
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Lack of universal coverage of proven, low-cost, high-impact interventions—particularly for underserved and rural populations—remains a key reason for the high rates of maternal deaths in Uganda. Antenatal care (ANC) ensures early detection and treatment of pregnancy-related complications. Completion of recommended ANC visits remains suboptimal, particularly for rural women in Uganda. The purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional study was to assess facility-level factors affecting completion of ANC attendance among women of reproductive age in a rural district in Uganda. The Dutton theory for initial and continued health services utilization was used to analyze the relationship between facility level factors and ANC …

Current Effects Of U.S. Preventive Care Quality Narratives On Preventive Health Services, James Fisher
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In the interest of improving patient outcomes, significant investments in operationalized quality of care within the Medicare space have promulgated a low-resolution narrative predicated on conflation of higher quality scores with improved population health. Concomitant financial incentivization of Medicare Advantage plans through aligned Star Measures places contracts as the fundamental unit of most care quality analyses, but no studies have considered how present incentivization schema have impacted physician use and associated quality scores over time for breast cancer screening (BCS), colorectal cancer screening (CCS), and annual flu vaccination (AFV) at a county level. Guided by the Evidence Based Model framework, …

The Causes And Control Measures Of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Producing Enterobacteriaceae In Long-Term Care Facilities, Ismaila Olatunji Sule
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Due to extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-PE), infections among residents are increasing in long-term care facilities (LTCFs), resulting in high rate of morbidity and healthcare costs. ESBL-PE resists empirical antibiotics and reduces treatment options, and a designated infection control team is unavailable to prevent the prevalence of the disease. Ecological theory guided this study. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to characterize the causes of ESBL-PE and evaluate the infection control strategies within LTCFs. Multiple regression analysis (MRA) was included as supplementary statistical analysis to identify relationships between LTCFs, geographical locations, infection control measures (ICMs), and ESBL-PE. A systematic search …

Ambivalence Over Emotion Expression And The Effects Of Religious Coping In African American Christians, Anya Loraine Dobbs
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
African Americans are 10% more likely than non-Hispanic Whites to report having serious mental health issues from psychological stressors. Mental health concerns, such as depression and anxiety, that arise from psychological stressors, are more than likely to go untreated in African Americans. African Americans are more likely to turn to religion- their church, their pastors, and fellow parishioners to address these concerns. Religion and religious coping has influenced African Americans’ attitudes regarding help-seeking and mental health treatment, with the “Black Church” historically being a source of many things, including mental health care. Pargament’s theory of religious coping served as a …

The Impact Of Assertiveness And Religiosity On The Expression Of Dissent Among U.S. Immigrant Nigerian Workers, Peter Osiabia Azorji
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractScholars have studied dissent in general, but few have focused on the impact of cultural contexts and characteristics on dissent. Literature on the influence of cultural factors on expression of disagreement in organizations, by immigrant Nigerian workers in the US has not received adequate attention. There is therefore a compelling need to bridge this gap. This quantitative nonexperimental correlation study examined the impact of assertiveness and religiosity (variables that may be influenced by culture), on expression of minority dissent among Nigerian immigrant workers in the United States. The inquiry was based on two theoretical models: Bourhis et al.âs interactive acculturation …
