The objective of this work was to present the first case of Brucella suis biovar 2 isolation in outdoor reared pigs in Serbia. B. suis biovar 2 has not previously been detected in Serbia, from either wild boar or outdoor reared pigs. In our case, brucellosis was discovered in the region of Srem, which geographically constitutes a part of northwestern Serbia. Outdoor reared pigs in the Srem region are part of an extensive breeding system in the field and woods. The aim of this study was to compare and contrast the isolation ability of selective media developed for Brucella spp. isolation and their inhibition ability against contaminant microorganisms. Fifty-one field strains biotyped from abortion case samples and 25 Brucella spp. negative organ samples were used. Strain suspensions and organ suspensions were prepared separately. The turbidity of the strain suspensions was measured via spectrophotometer. Mesenchymal stem cells are being used increasingly in cell-based therapies. Adipose tissue is an important source of mesenchymal stem cells and is also routinely used in research on lipid metabolism and obesity. Their high expansion potential and the ease of isolation make these cells an attractive cell source for regenerative therapies. The objective of this review is to give detailed information about the isolation, expansion, and clinical use of these cells in veterinary medicine.

The palatine tonsils of 220 pigs were examined for the occurrence of Streptococcus suis and other Streptococcus species. Samples were cultured onto Colombia agar plates with 5% defibrinated horse blood and selective antibiotic supplement and were incubated at 37 °C for 24-48 h aerobically. Presumptive colonies were identified using API20 Strep (bioMérieux). S. suis was not detected in any of the 220 palatine tonsils examined. S. porcinus was the most common streptococcus recovered and was isolated from 68 (31%) pigs. Lung, trachea, and serum samples obtained from turkeys showing clinical signs of respiratory disease were examined for the presence of Bordetella avium infection (bordetellosis) using culture, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The material of this study consisted of 2 live turkeys at the age of 24 weeks with respiratory distress, nasal discharge, and cough that had been brought to the Microbiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Adnan Menderes University. Serotyping Of Mannheimia Haemolytica Strains Isolated From Pneumonic Lungs Of Sheep In The Aydın Region Of Turkey, Şükrü Kirkan, Osman Kaya

This study was conducted to serotype isolates of Mannheimia haemolytica in the Aydın region of Turkey. A total of 200 lung samples showing pneumonia signs were obtained from slaughterhouses in the Aydın region. Twenty-four strains were isolated as Mannheimia haemolytica complex. Twenty-two strains were identified as Mannheimia haemolytica and 2 were as Pasteurella trehalosi for the first time in the region. The serotyping studies of strains isolated from pneumonic lung samples showed that Mannheimia haemolytica serotypes A1, A2, A6, A7, A8 and Pasteurella trehalosi serotype T4 were present in Aydın.

This study was carried out to isolate Clostridium perfringens from chickens and to detect the gene encoding the alpha toxin produced by all types of C. perfringens by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Intestinal contents of 160 slaughtered chickens from 8 different farms in Elazığ province were analyzed. C. perfringens was isolated from 8 (5%) of the samples. DNA samples extracted from suspected isolates grown on selective agar were amplified by PCR using a pair of primers derived from the alpha toxin gene. The aims of this study were the isolation of Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale from poultry and serotyping of the isolates and field sera by agar gel precipitation (AGP) test. For the isolation 257 chickens and 214 turkeys were used and for the AGP test 333 chickens and 250 turkeys were used. O. rhinotracheale was isolated from the sinus discharge of 3 broiler breeders at 37, 42 and 46 weeks of age. Ovine immunoglobulin M was isolated from sheep serum using gel filtration and affinity chromatography. Polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies against this isotype were prepared. The specificity of the monoclonal antibody was investigated using SDS-Page, immunoblotting, an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and affinity chromatography. On immunoblotting, monoclonal anti-IgM reacted with a 70 kD protein which corresponded to ovine IgM.

Infectious bursal disease (IBD) field viruses were isolated from the bursa Fabricius (BF) materials collected from the IBD infected or suspected flocks in different geographical regions of Turkey during 1992-1994. The field viruses were adapted to embryonated spesific-pathogen-free (SPF) eggs and chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cell cultures by serial blind passages and characterized by virus neutralization test (VN).
