In this study, the effects of capsaicin on the immunohistochemical distribution and gene expression of transforming growth factor alpha (TGF-\alpha) in ovarian tissue of rats at the pubertal age were examined. Materials and methods: Rats (50 days old) were divided into experimental, alimentation, and sham groups. The experimental group was injected with 1 mg/kg doses of capsaicin (10% ethanol and 1% Tween in an 80% distilled water mixture) subcutaneously every day for a period of 1 week. The alimentation group received 1 mg/kg doses of capsaicin (10% ethanol and 1% Tween in an 80% distilled water mixture). The sham group …

Since ethyl pyruvate (EP) is a known neuroprotective agent, this study was intended to investigate the effects of EP on pyramidal cell numbers and morphology in the hippocampus cornu ammonis after brain ischemia. Materials and methods: Female rats were divided into 5 groups: control, ischemia, ischemia + EP, incision + EP, and incision + Ringer's lactate (groups I, II, III, IV, and V, respectively). No intervention was performed in group I. Ischemia was established in groups II and III, and neck incisions were performed in groups IV and V. EP was intraperitoneally injected in groups III and IV. Ringer's lactate …

Bilberry is a natural antioxidant and has been utilized as a free radical scavenger to reverse the toxic effects of oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of bilberry on cisplatin-induced toxic effects in rat kidney. Materials and methods: Twenty-one female Wistar-albino rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: group I (control), one dose of saline solution; group II (cisplatin), single dose of 7.5 mg/kg of cisplatin; group III (cisplatin + bilberry), single dose of 7.5 mg/kg of cisplatin and 10 days of bilberry treatment applied as 200 mg/kg of bilberry. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and …
