Effects Of Wearable Devices On A Person’S Lifestyle, Krima Patel, Adarsh Gupta
Effects Of Wearable Devices On A Person’S Lifestyle, Krima Patel, Adarsh Gupta
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
Lifestyle of the general population is a genuine concern currently due to processed foods and sedentary lifestyles. Also, technology has geared the new generation towards introversion but, not all technology is bad. If used in the correct way, technology can be helpful in transitioning from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle. Through the Summer Medical Research Fellowship (SMRF) research program, it addressed whether or not wearable devices have an effect on lifestyle.
During SMRF, everyone above the age of 18 was targeted. The hypothesis was to address if devices have an effect on lifestyle. During the first week of …
Further Understanding The Efficacy Of Music-Based Cognitive Remediation Therapy For Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury, Sruthi Nanduri
Further Understanding The Efficacy Of Music-Based Cognitive Remediation Therapy For Patients With Traumatic Brain Injury, Sruthi Nanduri
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
Objective
To further assess the efficacy of music-based interventions in patients with traumatic brain injury and its therapeutic application to cognitive, motor and sensory deficits due to neurological sequalae
Introduction
- Traumatic brain injury is a direct result of an external force disabling neurological and neurophysiological functioning
- Sensory, motor, emotional, language and cognitive functioning impaired
- Treatment is usually cognitive remediation therapy (CR)
- In correspondence, music enhances cognitive performance via neural plasticity
- Current literature shows preliminary evidence of the positive results of music in parallel with CR

Nutrition Education Intervention For Children In Low Socioeconomic Neighborhoods, Archana Menon, Kasmier Viciosi, Joshua Nsubuga

Childhood obesity is a public health epidemic affecting 18.5% of children and adolescents in the United States. Children who are obese are more likely to obese as adults. Obesity leads to a number of comorbidities including chronic conditions like high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, and heart disease. Low socioeconomic status (SES), lack of healthy food access, and urban neighborhoods have been associated with childhood obesity. Additionally, convenience stores and other low-price stores tended to display and promote junk foods by the main entrance, whereas supermarkets and higher-income stores tended to display fruits and vegetables. We want to combat these …

Case Report: Post-Partum Headache, Alaleh Ebrahimi

Cerebral venous sinus thromboses are rare and occur in 5 people/1,000,000, more commonly in women that are pregnant at about 202/100,000 deliveries with an 11.63% mortality rate. It is believed that pregnancy being a hypercoagulable state is one of the main reasons that it is more common in pregnant and post-partum women. Common symptoms include sudden onset headache, blurry vision, focal neuro deficits, seizures and altered mental status.
Rheumatoid Nodule Mimicker Mycobacterium Haemophilum: A Case Presentation, Elisa Griswold
Rheumatoid Nodule Mimicker Mycobacterium Haemophilum: A Case Presentation, Elisa Griswold
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
Mycobacterium haemophilum is a rare infection that can present in humans as subcutaneous nodules and cutaneous lesions. With a growing number of immunocompromised patients, M. haemophilum infections are becoming more common. Rheumatoid nodules in comparison are very common and can occur in approximately 25% of patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Here we discuss a case in a patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis who developed subcutaneous nodules that mimicked rheumatoid nodules, but were later determined to be infectious nodules from Mycobacterium haemophilum.
Rare Variant Of Porokeratosis: A Case Report, Nardin Awad
Rare Variant Of Porokeratosis: A Case Report, Nardin Awad
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
There are 5 clinically distinct variants of porokeratosis, including classic porokeratosis of Mibelli, disseminated superficial (actinic) porokeratosis, linear porokeratosis, punctate porokeratosis, and porokeratosis palmaris et plantaris disseminate. Porokeratosis ptychotropica (PP) is the sixth, lesser-known variant of the spectrum. PP is characterized by verrucous plaques, often resembling psoriasis plaques, that affect the buttocks, most commonly the gluteal cleft, and can also involve the extremities, most commonly the lower legs and feet. Due to its characteristic verrucous appearance, designations such as verrucous or hyperkeratotic porokeratosis are occasionally used. Besides its predilection for specific locations, PP also has a significant predilection for men …
The Application Of Point-Of-Care Ultrasound In Ed Intubations And Airway Access: A Systematic Review, Frank Wheeler, James Espinosa, Alan Lucerna, Jeffrey Gardecki
The Application Of Point-Of-Care Ultrasound In Ed Intubations And Airway Access: A Systematic Review, Frank Wheeler, James Espinosa, Alan Lucerna, Jeffrey Gardecki
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
Intubation is an essential procedure performed on a routine basis in the emergency room. Unsuccessful intubations are associated with deleterious outcomes. A systematic review was performed to investigate the accuracy of point of care ultrasound (POCUS) in successful Endotracheal Tube (ET) tube confirmation, utilizing ultrasonography, identification of the cricothyroid membrane utilizing ultrasound, and dynamically during use of ultrasonography in the process of intubation. This review demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for ultrasound confirmation of ET tube placement, high success rate in ultrasound-guided intubation, and lower than expected accuracy in identifying the cricothyroid membrane. Ultrasonography should be considered for ET tube …
Case Report: The Value Of Vigilance And Iterative Evaluations With An Uncooperative Patient In The Emergency Department, Duwayne Campbell
Case Report: The Value Of Vigilance And Iterative Evaluations With An Uncooperative Patient In The Emergency Department, Duwayne Campbell
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
Discussion
A Flexible and Vigilant Approach: The initial presenting information from EMS could have led to anchoring bias. A flexible approach led to new information, which led to interative testing.
Iterative physical examination. There are cases, as seen in this case report, where the physical examination was unreliable or even impossible. Iterative evaluations ultimately led to appropriate imaging and accurate diagnosis.
Iterative testing: In the case presented, the radiologist reported a finding as being present on a prior CXR; however, given the patient’s clinical presentation, further imaging studies were necessary.
