Background:

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is common and recognized as a risk factor for developing non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) while the prognostic evaluation is still controversial. As immunotherapy is widely used in clinical practice, its efficacy and survival should be investigated in patients with DM.

Methods:

We retrospectively recruited 266 locally advanced and metastatic NSCLC patients who received pembrolizumab alone or in combination with chemotherapy. Patients' clinicopathological data, including age, history of DM, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), genetic tumor profiling, and survival data were collected. Objective:

To determine if preterm birth is associated with adaptation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis and whether HPA axis programming relates to the degree of prematurity (defined as extremely preterm birth at < 28 weeks or very preterm birth at 28–32 weeks gestation).

Introduction: Pleural mesothelioma (PM) is an aggressive malignancy with no identified predictive biomarkers. We assessed whether tumor BAP1 status is a predictive biomarker for survival in patients receiving first-line combination platinum and pemetrexed therapy. Methods: PM cases (n = 114) from Aalborg, Denmark, were stained for BAP1 on tissue microarrays. Demographic, clinical, and survival data were extracted from registries and medical records. Objective: This study compares the well-being of rural caregivers with that of the general population and explores the potential drivers of poorer outcomes. Method: Patient–caregiver dyads (n = 241) residing in regional or remote Queensland, Australia, reported on QoL, chronic illness, caregiver burden, depression, anxiety and stress. Caregiver outcomes were compared with population norms and patient outcomes. Multiple regressions were conducted to identify factors associated with poorer caregiver outcomes. Continued growth in the number of published clinical studies has necessitated changes to the way evidence-based resources such as clinical guidelines are developed and updated. The Australian and New Zealand Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management (https://informme.org.au/guidelines/clinical-guidelines-for-stroke-management) are based on continual evidence surveillance and timely updates to recommendations as new research is published. In this article, we outline the main updates to recommendations since the guidelines moved into a living mode in 2018, and discuss key challenges and benefits of living guidelines.

An acute bout of eccentric exercise affects insulin sensitivity and lipid profile, but how the magnitude of muscle damage affects them is not clear. Severe angiopathy is a major driver for diabetes-associated secondary complications. Knowledge on the underlying mechanisms essential for advanced therapies to attenuate these pathologies is limited. Injection of ABCB5+ stromal precursors at the edge of nonhealing diabetic wounds in a murine db/db model, closely mirroring human type 2 diabetes, profoundly accelerates wound closure. Strikingly, enhanced angiogenesis was substantially enforced by the release of the ribonuclease angiogenin from ABCB5+ stromal precursors. This compensates for the profoundly reduced angiogenin expression in nontreated murine chronic diabetic wounds.
