Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is an orthopedic disorder among adolescents world-wide. The condition manifests as a curvature of the spine which can range from mild to severe. Treatment courses vary, and include a combination of clinical observation, physical therapy, orthopedic bracing and/or surgical intervention. Background: A significantly higher percentage of the homeless population in the United States suffer from severe mental illness as compared to the total population. Research suggests that experiencing homelessness contributes to sensitivity to psychiatric distress in addition to less successful mental health recovery outcomes.

There is a disproportionate number of black men who have sex with men (BMSM) diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus, also known as acquired immunodeficiency disease (HIV/AIDS) when compared to other populations such as Caucasian men who have sex with men. Background: In the U.S., breast cancer incidence has increased among older adult African-American women, particularly among those aged 60 to79 while white women have either decreased or stabilized (CDC, 2016). Within the last 10 years, breast cancer mortality rates are approximately 40% higher among African-American women compared to white women (CDC, 2016). Many barriers limit breast cancer screenings among this population. Recognizing and addressing specific barriers may improve utilization of breast cancer screenings in the future.
