Decreasing Overall Breast Cancer Risk Through Assessment, Treatment, And Prevention Of Vitamin D Deficiency In The Adult Population, Rachel Jamison
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project
The primary objective of this study is to examine the effectiveness of an educational initiative aimed at enhancing nurse practitioners' understanding and recognition of vitamin D deficiency. The purpose of this program is to equip them with the skills to screen, diagnose, and manage this condition to mitigate the overall risk of breast cancer in patients. Vitamin D deficiency is a prevalent global health issue that affects over one billion people, and it can manifest at any stage of life without showing any symptoms, making it challenging for healthcare providers to detect. However, even mild or prolonged deficiencies can lead …
Low Vitamin B12: The Need For Updated Provider Education, Tracy Coltharp
Low Vitamin B12: The Need For Updated Provider Education, Tracy Coltharp
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project
Vitamin B12 deficiency is a notable clinical problem with multi-factorial risk factors and a multitude of clinical manifestations. It is associated with polyglandular autoimmune syndromes, some familiar and some lesser well known. The specific aim of this scholarly project was to evaluate whether education aimed at providers such as nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students, physician assistants, and physicians regarding updated diagnostic criteria for vitamin B12 deficiencies as well as associated diseases, specifically autoimmune gastritis, and pernicious anemia, increased their knowledge and ultimately improved clinical practice. The project utilized a pre-test/post-test design with education provided in between. There was an improvement …
The Effect Of Education Path And Nursing Specialty On Knowledge And Attitude Survey Regarding Pain Scores, Justin Cope
The Effect Of Education Path And Nursing Specialty On Knowledge And Attitude Survey Regarding Pain Scores, Justin Cope
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project
Pain is reported as the number one fear of patients, and has been shown to stop patients from seeking necessary medical treatment in a timely manner. Therefore, it is important that health care professionals be able to properly assess and treat pain. One area not previously studied is how degree path affects knowledge acquisition.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of structured education and clinical experience on general pain knowledge between traditional and non-traditional Bachelors of Science in Nursing students. Participants of this study include RN-BSN students and pre-licensure BSN students who have completed the Adult …

Expanding Clinical Knowledge And Awareness To Non-Benzodiazepine Treatments By Providing An Educational Intervention: A Quantitative Study, Alexander Labrador
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project
This study examined the effectiveness of an educational intervention for healthcare clinicians to increase knowledge and awareness of non-benzodiazepine treatments for the treatment of anxiety and panic disorders. The target population were healthcare clinicians in a metropolitan area that commonly treat anxiety and panic disorders. Clinicians from different specialties were recruited to participate and evaluated on their knowledge of benzodiazepines on a 3-question pretest survey using a Likert scale. The clinician was then given a 30-minute educational intervention that covered the risks and dangers of benzodiazepines and a review of alternative, non-benzodiazepine treatment options. The clinician then self-evaluated themselves using …

Registered Nurse Education On Prevention Of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia In An Urban Midwestern Intensive Care Unit, Jodi Marie Weber
Registered Nurse Education On Prevention Of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia In An Urban Midwestern Intensive Care Unit, Jodi Marie Weber
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project
Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) is a preventable health condition causing increased hospital stays, over 35,000 deaths each year, and one of the costliest healthcare associated infections. VAP occurs when a patient develops pneumonia after being intubated and mechanically ventilated. Preventative measures are commonly in place amongst facilities, despite these measures VAPs still are occurring. Poor compliance with preventative measures have been observed in regards to oral care. Staff nurses in an intensive care unit (ICU) at a midwestern urban hospital were provided education on VAPs and preventative measures, with a focus on proper oral care. Staff nurses were given a …
Provision Of Formal Education To Nursing Staff: Kangaroo Mother Care Within Maternal-Child Units, Jessica Holly
Provision Of Formal Education To Nursing Staff: Kangaroo Mother Care Within Maternal-Child Units, Jessica Holly
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Project
Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is an evidence-based intervention that improves neonatal outcomes and reduces mortality in infants. KMC is not fully integrated into local hospital maternal-child departments and nursing professionals do not have a standard education offering concerning KMC. While the use of KMC is not entirely absent, nursing knowledge and understanding of its correct execution leads to lesser occurrences of KMC initiation. This scholarly project addresses nursing knowledge as a practice quality improvement. A literature review was completed, including searches through CINAHL, Merck Manuals, MEDLINE Plus Health Information, ProQuest, and UpToDate. A pretest, educational video, and posttest were then …

IMPACT OF MATERNAL FETAL TRIAGE INDEX ON EMERGENCY HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS
An Abstract of the DNP Scholarly Project by
Samantha Shepard
Care of obstetrical patients in non-delivering facilities is increasing. Obstetrical service availability in rural areas has decreased by more than 50% in recent years, according to Hung et al. (2018). Healthcare providers in these areas lack confidence and competence due to lack of regular training and encounters with obstetrical patients. The Maternal Fetal Triage Index (MFTI) provides a standardized approach for triaging the obstetrical population. The purpose of this project was to determine if staff confidence and competency improves within …

Osteoarthritis is an arthritic condition of the joints commonly found in the elderly population. This condition occurs as intra-articular cartilage wears down over time. Most patients present with joint pain. The pain that occurs from joint pain often impedes physical activity, which can ultimately increase pain levels. There are several treatments for osteoarthritis, however, there is no cure. Providers often prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and other oral analgesics for pain management. Because osteoarthritis typically occurs in the elderly population, adding medications to what often is a long list of medications can cause issues such as drug interactions and medication toxicities. Other …

This is still below the national average of 68-75%, leaving many children in Southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma unprotected from preventable childhood diseases.
Purpose
The purpose of this scholarly project was to identify barriers to vaccination, including vaccine hesitancy and socioeconomic barriers affecting completion of the primary vaccine series, or combo …
