New graduate registered nurses (RN) are facing a difficult time finding jobs since the economy of the United States has declined. Since then the California Institute of Nursing and Health Care, along with funding from the Betty Moore Foundation, have developed RN transition programs. These programs were developed to increase skills, confidence, and experience among new RN graduates to promote their transition into the nursing workforce. The programs also were designed to retain newly licensed nurses in the nursing profession while engaging competencies that could be transferred to both acute and outpatient care settings. The amount of time nurse managers and senior leadership spend with frontline or bedside staff impacts their ability to empower, engage and retain staff. Improving nurse satisfaction in relationship to teamwork, perception of senior leadership and attitude about direct management should be a priority of all organizations. Leaders that recognize the power of an intergenerational and interdisciplinary workforce will be influential for dynamic change and visionary development. Advancing overall teamwork as a nursing department, developing a better rapport with senior leadership and improving the relationship between direct management and front-line nurses is in the best interest of patient care.

Background: Heart Failure (HF) disease management programs (DMP) have shown to improve outcomes. The aim of this heart failure pilot program is an evaluation program. Measurement of functional capacity utilized the Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) questionnaire. Since the DASI uses the patient’s ability to perform a set of common activities of daily living to gauge functional capacity based on the known metabolic cost of each activity in MET units, it is thought to be well suited for population studies in which assessment of functional capacity during follow-up is needed.

Falls, can be a devastating source of morbidity and mortality for the older adult. According to a recent CDC Report, “Falls Among the Older Adult”, more than one third of adults aged 65 and older fall each year in the United States and falls are the leading cause of injury deaths. Falls are also the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma in the older adult population (CDC Report). United States soldiers face the most heinous dangers on a daily basis while serving our country. Despite knowing the risks, they are courageous and willing warriors. They are equipped with training, knowledge, and equipment to combat these dangers. However, despite all the training, despite the equipment, and despite their courage, there is a danger that lurks beyond those associated with military service and it is tobacco smoking.
