We investigated the use of low-dose naltrexone (3 mg oral daily) as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of FFA and LPP. Methods A single-center, uncontrolled open-label prospective study was performed, with 26 patients who took low-dose naltrexone for one year included in the per-protocol analysis. INTRODUCTION: Of the family members providing care, in the United States over 5.4 million are young people (<18 years of age) and they are the caregivers receiving the least support overall. Given the need to support cancer survivors through a family-centered practice approach, this lack of support and intervention for young caregivers represents a substantial gap in cancer care. In this study, we will adapt a young caregivers intervention, YCare, with young caregivers in families affected by cancer in order to advance support for families in cancer settings. YCare is an intervention that improves the support young caregivers provide through a peer-engaged, multidisciplinary model but has previously not been studied in the cancer care setting.

METHODS: Guided by the updated Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) we will engage stakeholders (i.e., young caregivers, cancer survivors, health care providers) using qualitative (i.e., one-on-one semi-structured interviews) and arts-based methods. Stakeholders will be recruited via cancer registries and community partners. Data will be analyzed descriptively using deductive (e.g., CFIR domains) and inductive (e.g., cancer practice settings) approaches.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinically relevant microbiological characteristics of uropathogens and to compare patients with catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) to those with non-CAUTIs.

METHODS: All urine cultures from the calendar year 2019 of the Swiss Centre for Antibiotic Resistance database were analyzed. Group differences in the proportions of bacterial species and antibiotic-resistant isolates from CAUTI and non-CAUTI samples were investigated.

RESULTS: Data from 27,158 urine cultures met the inclusion criteria.

UNLABELLED: Small, single-layer microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (µPADs) offer potential for a range of point-of-care applications; however, they have been limited to low flow rates. Here, we investigate the role of laser cutting paper channels in maximizing flow rate in small profile devices with limited fluid volumes. We demonstrate that branching, laser-cut grooves can provide a 59.23-73.98% improvement in flow rate over a single cut, and a 435% increase over paper alone. BACKGROUND & AIMS: Acute and chronic gastric injury induces alterations in differentiation within the corpus of the stomach called pyloric metaplasia. Pyloric metaplasia is characterized by the death of parietal cells and reprogramming of mitotically quiescent zymogenic chief cells into proliferative, mucin-rich spasmolytic polypeptide-expressing metaplasia (SPEM) cells. Overall, pyloric metaplastic units show increased proliferation and specific expansion of mucous lineages, both by proliferation of normal mucous neck cells and recruitment of SPEM cells. Here, we identify Sox9 as a potential gene of interest in the regulation of mucous neck and SPEM cell identity in the stomach.

OBJECTIVE: The overall goal of this work is to produce a set of recommendations (SoNHR-Social Networks in Health Research) that will improve the reporting and dissemination of social network concepts, methods, data, and analytic results within health sciences research.

METHODS: This study used a modified-Delphi approach for recommendation development consistent with best practices suggested by the EQUATOR health sciences reporting guidelines network. Volume-regulated anion channels (VRACs) are a group of ubiquitously expressed outwardly-rectifying anion channels that sense increases in cell volume and act to return cells to baseline volume through an efflux of anions and organic osmolytes, including glutamate. Because cell swelling, increased extracellular glutamate levels, and reduction of the brain extracellular space (ECS) all occur during seizure generation, we set out to determine whether VRACs are dysregulated throughout mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE), the most common form of adult epilepsy. INTRODUCTION: Eight members of the International Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Society Tic and Tourette Syndrome Study Group formed a subcommittee to discuss further barriers to practice guideline implementation.
