Importance: Strokes are a leading cause of disability. 35-50% of stroke survivors develop depression, which is the most common physiological impairment post-stroke and associated with less functional independence with activities of daily living (ADLs) (Ezema et al., 2019; Hildebrand, 2014; Wijeratne & Sales, 2021).

Objective: This systematized review addressed interventions within the scope of occupational therapy that are effective for reducing depressive symptoms for adults post-stroke.

Importance: Pelvic floor disorders affect an estimated 86% of pregnancies, leading to decreased quality of life and negative health outcomes for postpartum women (Palmieri et al., 2022; Dasikan et al., 2020). Massive Upper Gi Bleeding From Duodenal Invasion Of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Successfully Treated With Embolization And Hemospray®, Patrick Twohig, Erin Walsh, Amy Calderon

Direct invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) into the duodenum is a unique and life-threatening complication of HCC that has been rarely reported. A 60-year-old male with known HCC and cirrhosis presented with melena. Computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis showed a 7cm hepatic mass abutting the duodenum. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy demonstrated a large, actively oozing mass in the duodenum treated with Hemospray® followed by transarterial embolization (TAE). Active upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to duodenal invasion of HCC can be successfully treated with Hemospray® Endoscopic Hemostat and TAE.

The prostatic utricle is a remnant of the Müllerian duct located within the verumontanum. An enlarged, clinically significant prostatic utricle has classically been associated with hypospadias. Prostatic utricles often present with persistent lower urinary tract symptoms, recurrent infections, and urinary incontinence. We present a prostatic utricle that presented as a scrotal mass concerning for rhabdomyosarcoma in a male with normal external genitalia.

This is a case of an 82-year-old patient who presented with recurrent polymicrobial bloodstream infections and no obvious undrained source of infection. She had prior double barrel iliocaval stenting for post thrombotic syndrome. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy and primary repair of a duodenal-caval fistula with a fascia lata patch and an omental pedicle flap. No further bloodstream infections were documented after the repair. This discussion highlights an uncommon complication of IVC stenting, its presentation as well as the operative approach used to repair the fistula.

The purpose of this quality improvement project was to implement intimate partner violence screening in an outpatient women’s health clinic with no prior screening process in place. Current recommendations are to screen all reproductive age women for intimate partner violence 6 . During a three-month period 170 patients out of 260 eligible patients were screened using the HARK screening tool, 7 of those patients screened positive and were offered referrals to social work. While universal IPV screening was not achieved, a screening rate of 64% is a remarkable improvement from an apparent absence of screening prior to project implementation.

Ewing sarcoma (EWS) is a malignant pediatric bone cancer. EWS express a fusion oncogene resulting from the reciprocal translocation of EWSR1 an ETS transcription factor. In most EWS tumors, this occurs with FLI1, creating the EWS::FLI1 fusion oncogene which encodes an aberrant transcription factor. Independent of its transcriptional activity, EWS::FLI1 deregulates other cellular processes driving oncogenesis. For cases with a single, localized tumor, roughly 80% of patients remain event-free after five years. Disease dissemination is a problem – about 25% of patients have metastatic disease at diagnosis. Bacterial infections are the leading cause of mortality worldwide due to the lack of accurate diagnosis of the pathogens causing infections. Currently, microbiological and molecular techniques are used to identify pathogenic bacteria. However, these techniques have limitations as they are time-consuming, cost-inefficient, and require trained personnel. Therefore, timely and precise identification of pathogenic bacteria is crucial for public safety. Our lab previously synthesized a fluorescent sensor array (3-hydroxyflavone derivatives) encapsulated in hyaluronic acid-based nanoparticles to identify bacterial species and recognize their Gram status. Although joint involvement is the predominant manifestation of RA, extra-articular features, such as interstitial lung disease (ILD), contribute significantly to the elevated mortality associated with the condition. Post-translational modifications play a significant role in RA and RA-ILD pathogenesis. The current study assessed the feasibility of a laboratory model designed to evaluate options for mitigating common caregiver errors in the implementation of destructive behavior treatment. We developed a computer-based analogue to caregiver implementation of extinction for attention-maintained destructive behavior; the model included contingencies on both caregiver errors of commission and adherence to the treatment protocol. The purpose of this pilot study was to describe the current state of burnout of physical therapists in Nebraska using a multiple methods approach.

The quantitative phase of the study utilized a cross-sectional design and survey to measure burnout levels and identify associated characteristics of 407 practicing physical therapists in Nebraska. Indicators illuminating whole-of-community and setting system physical activity (PA) outcomes and drivers are needed to inform population health improvement efforts. This multi-study dissertation examines inequalities in PA resources, opportunities, and outcomes and the factors influencing inequalities across multiple temporal and geospatial scales (e.g., community, setting). First, a scoping review examined community-level variability in PA resource and opportunity availability by community sociodemographic characteristics (e.g., race). Across 46 included studies, 41 unique indicators characterizing community PA systems were identified, and 29.8% of relationships assessed indicated greater resource/opportunity availability in communities of higher socioeconomic status or lower minority population prevalence. Schistosomiasis is a significant human disease caused by the helminth parasite Schistosoma mansoni. Praziquantel remains the only clinically used treatment, yet it is rapidly metabolized and only effective against the adult stage worm infection. Ro 13-3978 (AR02) is a potent antischistosomal compound with activity against multiple S. mansoni life stages; however, it manifests anti-androgenic activity. Additionally, the mechanism of action for worm clearance remains unknown. The structure of Ro 13-3979 was used to generate optimized derivatives, including AR102, that show increased potency towards worms, reduced off-target anti-androgen effects, and extended half-life thereby increasing the feasibility for a single-dose curative treatment. …
