Background: Acetaminophen (APAP) is the most widely used analgesic drug worldwide, but it may induce renal toxicity. Betulinic acid (BA) ameliorates the oxidative stress and inflammatory response to renal damage. The present study aimed to investigate the potential protective effects of BA treatment through an experimental kidney damage rat model administered with APAP.
Methods: Sprague–Dawley male rats were randomly divided into four groups: control, BA (25 mg/kg for 15 days), APAP (1 g/kg), and APAP + BA groups. BA was administered via oral gavage at a dose of 25 mg/kg for 15 days. APAP was dissolved in hot …

Prolonged fructose intake can activate the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and enhance oxidative stress conditions, causing hypertension and hyperuricemia. This study aimed to determine the antihypertensive and antioxidant activity of Jamu B on the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the kidneys of Sprague Dawley rats induced by 10% fructose. Thirty rats were divided into six groups. Groups B1-B3 were Jamu groups at a dose of 0.12 g/kg BW (B1), 0.24 g/kg BW (B2), and 0.36 g/kg BW (B3); group C (positive control) was given captopril 0.1 g/kg BW, group D (negative control) was given only 10% …

Background: Acne vulgaris (AV) is a multifactorial disorder characterized by the formation of open and closed comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. Oxidative stress plays a role in the pathogenesis of AV. Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), especially lipid peroxides (LPO), plays a role in mediating acne inflammation. Malondialdehyde (MDA) is one of the byproducts of LPO commonly used as a biomarker of cell damage.
Methods: This cross-sectional analytic study consisted of sixty patients with AV. The samples were taken from the blood plasma of AV subjects. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) examination was performed. The normality of data …
Lipid Peroxidation Inhibition Activity Of Sintrong (Crassocephalum Crepidioi-Des) Leaf Extract In Rats Consuming Arak Jembrana, Ni Putu Widayanti, Ayu Saka Laksmita W, Desak Putu Risky Vidika Apriyanthi, I G K Nyoman Arijana
Lipid Peroxidation Inhibition Activity Of Sintrong (Crassocephalum Crepidioi-Des) Leaf Extract In Rats Consuming Arak Jembrana, Ni Putu Widayanti, Ayu Saka Laksmita W, Desak Putu Risky Vidika Apriyanthi, I G K Nyoman Arijana
Makara Journal of Science
The present study was conducted to determine the antioxidant activity of sintrong (Crassocephalum crepidioides) leaf extract to inhibiting lipid peroxidation by decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the blood plasma of rats consuming arak Jembrana. The process of making sintrong leaf extract used 96% ethanol with maceration techniques. In vivo testing used five groups: (1) a control group, (2) treatment with arak, (3) treatment with arak followed by extract at a dose of 37.5 mg/kgBW, (4) treatment with arak followed by extract at a dose of 50 mg/kgBW, and (5) treatment with arak followed by extract at a dose …

Excessive free radical production will lead to oxidative stress. One of the indicators used to determine stress oxidative is malondialdehyde (MDA). Hylocereus polyhizus peel is potential used natural exogenous antioxidant. The aim of this research was to study the effect of n-hexane fraction of H.polyhizus peel on MDA level and to determine the dose that could reduce the MDA level. H.polyhizus peel was macerated with chloroform, fractionated with n-Hexane. Rats were divided into 7 groups : normal, negative, positive control vitamin E (18 mg/ kgbw), positive control quercetin (4 mg/200gbw), H.polyhizus peel extract group treated with dose I (10mg/ 200gbw), …
