Objective: This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of ultrasonic tip with and without solvent in removing gutta-perca and bioceramic sealer from the middle and apical third of the root canals. Methods: This is a true experimental study with randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Eighteen freshly extracted straight single-rooted mandibular first premolars were confirmed by CBCT and selected. The teeth were decoronated until a length of 16 ± 0.5mm. The teeth were prepared and obturated using gutta-percha and bioceramic sealer with a hydraulic condensation technique. Pre-instrumentation CBCT imaging of all teeth was carried out to obtain the initial volume of …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

In recent years, micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) has become a promising tool for non-destructive imaging and the study of root canal morphology in endodontics. However, the reliability of such analyses heavily relies on the accuracy and consistency of the software used for image processing. Objective: This study aims to investigate the reliability of two different micro-CT voxel sizes using open-source three-dimensional (3D) software (Drishti v3.0) used to identify and quantify the Apical Foramen (AF) and Apical Constriction (AC) in mandibular premolars. Methods: Eight mandibular premolars were divided into two groups, with four samples in each group. Samples were scanned using a …

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

Oral colon-targeted drug delivery systems represent a significant advancement offering both systemic and local therapeutic effects for a range of intestinal diseases, including irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, colonic bacterial infections, and colorectal cancer. These systems facilitate the delivery of both small molecules and macromolecular compounds such as peptides, proteins, antibodies, oligonucleotides, RNA, and probiotics. This review provides an up-to-date exploration of the critical factors crucial for the effective design and development of drug delivery systems targeting the colon. The chosen strategy takes into account various aspects of colon physiology that influences the profile of drug release, absorption, dissolution, …

Arthritis, a diverse spectrum of joint disorders, is characterized by chronic pain and inflammation. Osteoarthritis (OA), the most prevalent form, leads to disabling pain, functional limitations, and reduced mobility. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used for managing OA pain, with ketoprofen recognized as one of the effective options. However, oral administration of ketoprofen may cause gastrointestinal irritation. Addressing this issue, Transdermal Drug Delivery Systems (TDDS) emerge as a promising alternative route of administration. TDDS facilitates delivery of various drugs through the skin without undergoing first-pass metabolism. Recent studies have centered on enhancing ketoprofen’s transdermal delivery, particularly focusing on different …

Introduction. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a simple parameter to assess the inflammatory status, especially in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients experiencing capillary damage due to increased glomerular capillary pressure. In a state of vascular endothelial inflammation, there is a higher tendency to form atherosclerotic plaques and calcification that can induce cardiovascular events such as heart failure, coronary heart disease, and stroke. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the NLR and cardiovascular complications in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Methods. An analytical observational study with cross-sectional approach was conducted among 119 CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Dr …

Introduction. Esophageal variceal bleeding is one of the complications caused by an increase in pressure within the portal vein blood vessels. The gold standard examination for portal pressure is the hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG), but HVPG examination is invasive, involving transjugular catheterization of the hepatic vein. Currently, non-invasive methods for measuring portal hypertension are being developed to predict esophageal varices and esophageal variceal bleeding using spleen stiffness measurements. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of spleen stiffness measurement in predicting recurrent esophageal variceal bleeding in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Methods. This study used a retrospective cohort …

Inferior myocardial infarction is frequently accompanied by right ventricular infarction. This report presents two cases of right ventricular infarction accompanied by hemodynamic disorder and atrioventricular block complications. These patients were diagnosed with right ventricular infarction based on history, clinical presentations, and electrocardiography findings. The management approach for these patients involved optimizing volume and fluid status, using temporary pacemakers, and urgent percutaneous coronary intervention. This report highlights the need to promptly identify right ventricular involvement in inferior myocardial infarction, as the treatment strategies for right ventricular infarction are different from left ventricular infarction.

Heart failure is a complex disease caused by abnormalities in the structure or function of the heart resulting in decreased cardiac output. The complexity of heart failure causes an increasing burden of mortality and morbidity. This has further exacerbated the burden of treatment costs as well as the high rate of hospital readmissions. Readmission rate in patients with heart failure within 30 days post-hospitalization can reach 17.5%. In order to reduce re-hospitalization rates, multidisciplinary programs were introduced. The program involves collaboration of cardiologists, specialty nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, and social workers using home or clinic-based models. Studies show that special management …

In Silico Analysis Of C-Type Lectins As Co-Infection Receptors Of Dengue And Chikungunya Viruses In Aedes Aegypti, Munawir Sazali, R. C. Hidayat Soesilohadi, Nastiti Wijayanti, Tri Wibawa, Arif Nur Muhammad Ansori

Makara Journal of Science

Aedes aegypti is a primer vector of dengue virus (DENV) and chikungunya virus (CHIKV). The susceptibility of mosquitoes to DENV and CHIKV depends on their recognition receptor of pathogens. C-type lectins (CTLs) are an important mediator of virus infection in A. aegypti. This study aims to identify potential receptors and determine the binding affinity between ligand–receptor interaction, CTLs and virus envelopes (DENV-1, 2, 3, and 4 and CHIKV) interaction based on in silico analysis. Sample sequences were obtained from GenBank (NCBI), and 10 CTLs were acquired from VectorBase. Homology modeling based on a minimum standard of 20% was processed …
