Nongenetic Causes Of Hypertyrosinemia That Must Be Considered When Interpreting A Finding Of Elevated Urinary Tyrosine, Manuel André Virú-Loza
Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana
Mr. Editor. In several countries, newborns are screened for tyrosinemia type 1 using tyrosine as a primary marker. In some situations, elevated blood tyrosine levels are discovered due to elevated tyrosine on a urine metabolic screen. In Peru, some pediatric patients suspected of having a genetic condition (inborn error of metabolism) undergo a metabolic screening in urine that includes - among other things - the qualitative detection of tyrosine. However, when there are high levels of tyrosine in the urine this does not always mean that the patient has a genetic condition. Hypertyrosinemia is most often non-genetic in origin. Therefore, …

Filling materials are used to correct soft tissue deficits. Local and systemic complications are described when these substances are applied. The polyalkylamide gel (Bio-alcamid) used as filler material has been associated with complications at the facial level, while at the pulmonary level they have not been reported in the literature. We present the case of a patient who consulted due to sudden progressive dyspnea hours after the subcutaneous injection of Bio-alcamid in the breasts. After the clinical evaluation and the result of auxiliary tests, the diagnosis of acute pneumonitis secondary to the injection of this substance is concluded. Follow-up of …

Introduction: Ghost cell glaucoma (GCG) is a very rare secondary open angle glaucoma, in which there is a sustained increase in intraocular pressure (IOP) due to obstruction of the trabecular meshwork (TM) due to the passage of ghost cells (GC) from the vitreous into the anterior chamber, after a vitreous hemorrhage (VH). Clinical Case: We present the case of a male patient with a history of vitreous hemorrhage and sustained IOP elevation in the right eye (RE). Medical treatment was insufficient, for this reason surgical treatment was required. Postoperative evolution was favorable. Conclusion: This pathology should prefer the differential diagnosis …

Clinical case: We presented cases of two female patients, 53 and 60 years old, who develop digestive bleeding, locating its origin in the small bowel and undergoing surgical removal of the affected intestinal segment. The anatomopathological study finds malformed arteries and veins that communicate without an intermediate capillary bed. The diagnosis was …
