Healthcare organizations must have high-quality nursing staff to deliver optimal patient care. Educators and managers evaluate nurses by their performance through nursing competencies, or “knowledge, skills, [and] abilities” (KSA) (American Nurses Association, 2015, p. 86). Traditional competency evaluations and manual tracking posed a problem within one pediatric hospital. Leaders did not have a transparent way to see the knowledge and skills of their nursing staff. This resulted in increased organizational costs due to retraining and increased workload and job dissatisfaction among educators. Introduction
Effective communication is an essential part of nursing care. Nurses need to effectively communicate with patients, families, providers and staff. The purpose of this study was to show how the use of technology (i.e., video conferencing on an electronic device) could assist nursing students to gain more confidence and reduce anxiety when discussing difficult topics such as sexual intimacy.
Methods
Pre-licensure nursing students were recruited to participate as part of regular class activities. A pre- and post-survey asking about their confidence and anxiety in communicating with patients was completed; then subjects were randomly placed into groups of 4 to …

The purpose of this quality improvement project was to use in situ simulation-based mock codes to evaluate the effectiveness of participants’ actions and perceived confidence, and to potentially reinforce and improve knowledge retention, skill acquisition, and confidence levels of nursing staff with regards to pediatric emergencies. Simulated drills were evaluated with a tool focused on high-performance teams and team dynamics as outlined by American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support 2016. Twenty-four simulated drills were conducted from January to February 2019. Technology is rapidly, constantly evolving, and affecting healthcare. While it has the ability to improve healthcare outcomes, it is important to realize the impact this technology has on the relationships between patients and nurses (Korhonen, et al., 2015). Interactions with patients are increasing through computer technology and decreasing by physical presence and touch, potentially compromising the development of a trusting relationship and thus affecting patient quality outcomes (Sandelowski, 2002).

Background: Research indicates many nurses lack the appropriate heart failure (HF) education necessary to assist with readmission reduction efforts. Employer approved nurse HF education has resulted in improved nurse HF knowledge, and, reduced readmissions.
Problem: ED nurses require a competent knowledge of heart failure to effectively educate heart failure patients upon admission to the ED. With the popularity of accelerated pre‐licensure nursing programmes and the growth in nursing student enrolments, traditional clinical education continues to be a challenge to deliver. Nursing faculty members are required to develop and implement educational innovations that achieve effective learning outcomes, while using fewer resources. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the effectiveness of a constructivism‐based learning project to achieve specific learning outcomes and to supplement approximately 30 clinical hours in a psychiatric–mental health nursing course. The Influence Of Staff Nurse Ethnicity On Perceptions Of The Work Environment, Silvia Helena Martins

This study investigated the relationship among Registered Nurses (RNs) from different ethnic groups and their perceptions of the work environment in a community hospital in California. Moos' Work Environment Scale (WES) was used to examine three Dimensions of the work climate. Statistically significant differences were found in the way Caucasian and non-Caucasian RNs perceived Peer Cohesion and Work Pressure. These findings have implications for nurse leaders interested in transforming the work environment as perceptions of Peer Cohesion and Work Pressure are important factors influencing RN retention and quality of patient care.
