Photodynamic therapy is a fairly new technique used in cancer treatment involving the use of a photosensitizer and light exposure to kill malignant cells. In this research, the use of ZnTPP-4AB as a photosensitizer and red light as a source of radiant light energy was explored in terms of cytotoxicity in the A549 lung cancer cell line. ZnTPP-4AB was synthesized by replacing the carbonyl functional groups on the ZnTPPC porphyrin with 4-amino-1-butanol. Bisphenol-A, better known as BPA, is a carcinogenic compound found in many plastic-containing products due to its ability to add rigidity and strength to the plastic. However, BPA has been found in a wide variety of products not traditionally thought of as “plastic” including feminine hygiene products, printer receipts, and even clothing. Clothing containing a polyester/spandex blend, common in athletic wear, contains BPA, whereas traditional cotton clothing does not. Research shows that 76% of athletes arrive at practice and/or games already one percent dehydrated.1 Furthermore, roughly 84% of athletes have engaged in disordered eating patterns and as 70% of female athletes have been found to be falling short in their energy needs. A bacteriophage is a virus that infects bacteria. Bacteriophage DNA was isolated from a lysate sample, but two separate, unrelated genome sequences were returned. Plaque assays and plaque streaking were used to in an effort to separate the phages. After plaque isolation was unsuccessful, NCBI BLAST and IDT software were used to build unique primers for each of the two unrelated genomes. After receiving the primers, PCR and gel electrophoresis were run on plaques and lysate from each phage to classify each phage in the correct cluster and sub cluster as identified by the original DNA sequencing.

Objective: Type 2 diabetics have a higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease complications (Glovaci et al., 2019). Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 9.9% of Type II Diabetics which represents 50.3% of all deaths related to Type II Diabetes Mellitus (Einarson et al., 2017). Across the world, cardiovascular disease affects approximately 32.2% of all people with Type II Diabetes Mellitus (Einarson et al., 2017). Photodynamic therapy is a new technique used in cancer treatment involving the use of a photosensitizer and light exposure to kill malignant cells. This research tested the use of ZnTPP-2MP as a photosensitizer using white light as a source of possible treatment of the A549 cancer cell line, with preliminary testing on MYC-22 and other G- quadruplex DNA samples. ZnTPP-2MP was synthesized by the reaction of the porphyrin, ZnTPPC, with 2-amino-2- methyl-1-propanol. COPD causes fatigue, breathing difficulty, impaired oxygenation, mucous production, and wheezing. It is estimated the mortality rate following a hip fracture is 20-40% within one year (Epidemiology of osteoporosis and fragility fractures, 2024). A literature review was performed to explore primary prevention techniques for reducing osteoporotic hip fractures. Oral cavities or caries is a localized deterioration of the tooth caused by an accumulation of harmful bacteria. This research intends to integrate bacteriophages onto unwaxed dental floss as a possible future preventative treatment for oral cavities. Bacteriophages are viruses that degrade the composition of bacterial populations by invading and reproducing inside bacterial hosts. The experimental framework involves soaking unwaxed floss in the bacteriophages named Phrick and Stonehill. In all categories, polymicrobial infections are often more virulent and harmful to the patient. Since different types of bacteria can communicate with each other through quorum-sensing when in the presence of each other, they can display different genomic characteristics. Further research into polymicrobial infections needs to be done because these changing characteristics can prevent treatment from working, such as antibiotics or bacteriophage therapy. As space exploration becomes more advanced, scientists look to find new ways to create nourishment and oxygen to maintain long-term space travel. Arthrospira platensis, commonly known as Spirulina, could be a possible solution to these problems. This cyanobacterium converts carbon dioxide into pure oxygen and the cell structure (coiled or straight) appears to trigger different oxygen and cultivation responses. Mixed (coiled and straight, Fig. 4) and coiled (Fig. 5) Spirulina cultures were transferred into 2.5 L containers and placed in white light boxes with varying intensities of light: 15 µmol/㎡/s, 7 µmol/㎡/s, and 3 µmol/㎡/s. As scientists explore further into space, more cost-effective resources are needed for long-term space travel. An interesting solution is Arthrospira platensis, a filamentous cyanobacteria high in proteins and nutrients, and known for its helical structure. In unfavorable conditions, coiled spirulina cells become straight. Spirulina converts carbon dioxide gas into pure oxygen and the different cell structures stimulate different responses in oxygen production and cultivation. In these experiments, 2.3 L containers of pure coiled spirulina and mixed (coiled and straight) spirulina were placed into 3 incubators with different light intensities: 51µmol/m2/s, 25µmol/m2/s, 12µmol/m2/s. Athletic trainers at the collegiate level have a responsibility to their athletes to prepare them in core endurance and strength for their specific needs. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of muscle fiber recruitment between traditional core exercises and non-traditional core exercises measured by an electromyography (EMG) machine in different vital core muscles. Twenty-four college students participated and were randomly sorted into two exercise groups, traditional or non-traditional. The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a complex cell-signaling system that was identified in 1988, the ECS is the largest receptor system and regulator of homeostasis. Endogenous cannabinoids, or endocannabinoids, are naturally occurring, lipid-based neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers in the body that send signals between nerve cells. The ECS system regulates and controls many of our most critical bodily functions such as learning, memory, emotional processing, sleep, temperature control, inflammatory immune responses, and appetite.
