Methadone is commonly used for the treatment of pregnant opiate-addicts. But, it can have severe effects on the neonate including Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, increased length of stay in the neonatal intensive care unit, and intrauterine growth retardation. Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome includes neurological excitability, gastrointestinal dysfunction, and autonomic signs. Because of these adverse effects, studies have been conducted to determine what can help reduce the severe complications caused by methadone. Varied dosages of methadone and alternative medications, such as buprenorphine, slow-release morphine, and others have been studied. Venipuncture training is an integral part of healthcare educational programs. Despite its extensive use, no previous studies have evaluated the psychobiological impact of this procedure among health-care students. Participants were 26 healthy students, practicing venipuncture on each other as part of their curricular activity. Self reported pencil and paper questionnaires aimed at assessing depression, anxiety and mood states were administered before and after venipuncture and saliva sample collection. Anti heat shock protein (Hsp) 70 and cortisol levels in blood and saliva were collected from the participants. A reduction in anxiety, anger and confusion mood states took place after venipuncture. Purpose: Adult stem cells are among the new methods of approaching the treatment of myocardial tissue damage. The purpose of this review is to clarify misconceptions about stem cell therapy efficacy in clinical trials and provide a thorough understanding of adult stem cells as a future treatment for patients with myocardial infarction. Methods: A comprehensive review of literature was performed analyzing and comparing 12 clinical trials involving the treatment of patients with acute and chronic myocardial infarction. The Reliability And Validity Of The Elderly Mobility Scale In The Acute Hospital Setting, Joanne Stacey Nolan, Lucinda Elaine Remilton, Margaret Mary Green

This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Elderly Mobility Scale (EMS) in an acute hospital setting. Intra-rater (n=15) and inter-rater (n=18) reliability were investigated using physiotherapists who viewed and scored video-recorded mobility assessments using the EMS on two occasions, one week apart. Latent class analysis of EMS scores showed that neither the occasion of testing (intra-rater reliability) (R2=0.0035, p=0.72), therapist (inter-rater reliability (R2=0.0051, p=1.00), years of experience (R2=0.0058, p=1.00) nor number of EMS assessments previously completed (R2=0.0048, p=1.00) had any impact on the EMS scores. Purpose: Stroke education modules have been added to medical school curriculums to improve stroke knowledge in graduate physicians, and this has resulted in positive outcomes. These findings suggest that similar strategies may be successful in graduate programs such as Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). Purpose: To describe the performance of a dietary procedure based on a cognitive behavioral approach among overweight or obese patients. Methods: Standardized 45 minutes consultations were conducted by a dietician to obese (n=139) and overweight (n=56) patients followed between 1998 and 2003 at the dietetic consultation of the Outpatient clinic of the University Hospitals of Geneva. Outcome measures were the proportion of eating behavior changes and weight change over time. Background: Breastfeeding has been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality rates due to gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses in children worldwide. Components of breast milk give the breast milk its protective mechanism against childhood illnesses. Additionally, breast milk is economical, costing parents nothing financially. Objective: To provide evidence to healthcare providers regarding the protective effects of breast milk against the incidence of gastroenteritis and pneumonia in infants. Optimal learning environments consider how students learn and utilise various teaching methods to tailor curriculum delivery to match specified student learning preferences. Method: This paper presents a comparative study examining the learning style preferences of first-year undergraduate occupational therapy (n = 116), physiotherapy (n = 60) and speech pathology students (n = 42) at one Australian university. Purpose: To assess African American college freshman students’ knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors related to HIV. Method: A descriptive exploratory design with survey methodology was used to carry out the study. The participants were a convenience sample of 222 African American college freshman students with an average age of 18 years. The Maine HIV Prevention Community Planning Group questionnaire was used to elicit information from participants. Objective: Identify and assess inter-gender differences in pharmacists’ behavior and perceptions while controlling for number of hours worked. Design: Every respondent is classified into two independent categories: gender and work input. Behavior and opinion variables are studied. Behavior variables measure who the pharmacist is and what he/she does; opinion variables measure perceptions related to satisfaction with his/her professional life. Setting: Survey questionnaire mailed to 5,000 registered pharmacists throughout the U.S. in 2004. Athletic training clinical education combines didactic education with practical experiences. Athletic training education programs facilitate the development of this instruction by preparing the clinical instructors affiliated with the program. Purpose: To compare time and movement characteristics of four different brands of football facemask loop straps during a cutting task. Methods: Ten certified athletic trainers, age 24.8 ± 3.4, years of experience 2.4 ± 2.5, cut four different brands of football helmet loop straps (ShockblockerTM, ASI (Athletic Specialty), SchuttTM AG (Armourguard) Elite, and RiddellTM) with an anvil pruner. Task completion time was measured with a time code generator. Helmet movement was measured in the lateral flexion plane using 2-dimensional motion analysis. Results:Measureable but non-significant differences were observed between loop strap types (P < 0.05) for dependent variables (time, range movement, and mean movement). Conclusions: Emergency personnel can effectively cut through various brands of football helmet loop straps using an anvil pruner and do not need brand-specific tools for facemask removal. Similar movement characteristics were observed while cutting all four brands of loop straps. Movement occurring during facemask removal may increase cervical displacement and increase injury severity. Measureable differences in cutting time warrant further investigation.

Since the late 1980s, studies on the language used to describe the sensation of breathlessness have emerged in order to understand mechanisms and differences between chronic diseases. A systematic review of randomized controlled trials was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of a biopsychosocial approach to management for chronic low back pain when applied by individual physiotherapists. Eight primary databases and three secondary databases were searched electronically. A manual reference search was also performed. To be eligible, trials had to provide treatment according to biopsychosocial principles in primary care or comparable settings. This approach is a holistic intervention that addresses social, psychological, and biological aspects of chronic pain.
