Brachytherapy is a type of treatment in which radioactive material is place inside one’s body to treat cancer. Background: Sports-related concussions (SRC) are a common injury sustained by many athletes of all different age groups and sports. The current standard treatment is rest followed by aerobic activity. Little has been researched on the effects of vestibular rehabilitation for concussion treatment, especially in physical therapy practice.

Objective: The purpose of this systematic review was to research the effects of early intervention of vestibular rehabilitation and an athlete’s time to return to play compared to rest alone.

This project explains the two most common positions to treat breast cancer: prone and supine. Radiation therapy, breast cancer, complications of radiation therapy to the breast, and the new set-up for prone positioning called Crawl Couch are also discussed on the poster. BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Visual impairment impacts an individual’s ability to participate in certain activities, like exercise. Often, individuals with visual impairment have difficulty maintaining an active lifestyle, possibly due to potential harm without assistance. Research on the use of aquatic therapy as a form of exercise in those with visual impairment is lacking. The purpose of this study is to determine if this population can tolerate and benefit from an aquatic exercise program. Additionally, this study serves to determine effects of aquatic exercise on cardiovascular fitness, functional strength, and overall quality of life in individuals with visual impairment.

Background/Purpose: Neuromuscular dysfunction encompasses a wide variety of conditions that impact proper muscle functioning. One common condition resulting in neuromuscular dysfunction is a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) which can disrupt sensory, motor, visual and language systems. The resulting combination of impairments can cause limitations in activity performance and restrict participation across domains. This project explains stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and its role in treating lung cancers. Different types of SBRT treatment, statistics, toxicity, success rates, and data from studies are discussed. More than half of all cancer patients experience lung metastasis, many of these cases being inoperable. SBRT provides a noninvasive alternative to surgery as well as high rates of local tumor control and minimal toxicity. Subcutaneous emphysema is a follow up symptom to a traumatic event, surgery, or nose-blowing. In addition subcutaneous emphysema is considered benign and self limiting. Computed tomography (CT) is the imaging modality of choice for diagnosing subcutaneous emphysema. CT is preferred because of its sensitivity to tissue densities. A CT will demonstrate dark air pockets within the subcutaneous layer of the skin. Furthermore, upon palpation of the the skin a crepitus crackling sound is demonstrated. Moreover, listening to the skin with a stethoscope will emit a high-frequency acoustic sound. Nevertheless, extensive subcutaneous emphysema may require medical assistance. This project explains how magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used for neuroblate laser ablations, or laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT). LITT therapy involves the usage of heat to treat intracranial pathologies such as glioblastomas. Laser therapy is an non-invasive alternative to open resection and craniotomy procedures in which a surgical opening of the skull and brain tissue are necessary. Ablations are considered a safer alternative because patients showed no signs of declining cognitive functions post surgery. Magnetic resonance scanners are used in conjunction with laser systems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the appropriateness of bilateral lower extremity venous exam orders. The study encompassed final reports of 216 bilateral lower extremity venous exams that took place in December 2021 from three separate medical facilities. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Appropriate Use Guidelines for Non-Invasive Vascular Studies were used to determine if the exams were ordered appropriately. The results were 159 duplex exams were ordered appropriately and 57 were not appropriate. The findings concluded that a majority of the bilateral lower extremity venous exams were ordered appropriately.

Educational requirements for entry to the healthcare professions was compared in a table, with information found in each professions’ accreditation standards, as well as the Misericordia University program handbooks and program catalog.
