Pulmonary Hydatid Cyst: A Case Report, Prima J J D'Souza Ms, Ganesh Kamath Dr, Leena Sequeira Ms

Hydatid disease is caused by Echinococcus granulosus parasite. It affects most commonly the liver, followed by the lungs. Symptoms are not specific and can be produced by the mass effect or cyst complications. Early identification and treatment of the condition prevents mortality. We report a case of pulmonary hydatid cyst, where the patient presented with symptoms of fever, cough with expectoration, weight loss and dyspnoea. Final diagnosis was done based on chest radiography and Tomography scan findings and was successfully treated with right middle lobectomy and anti-helminthic drugs

Thyroid Ectopia is a developmental defect which occurs during the stage of early embryogenesis of the Thyroid gland. A frequent presentation is around the course of the thyroglossal duct in the neck, a normal path of thyroid gland descent. If Thyroid Ectopia is mistaken for a Thyroglossal Duct Cyst and is removed unintentionally, it would cause hypothyroidism. We report a case of Thyroid Ectopia mimicking a Thyroglossal Duct Cyst in a five year old child who had subclinical hypothyroidism and having regular, long-term follow up and treated with Thyroid supplement

Invasive fungal infections are common among infants hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Central Nervous System (CNS) involvement occurs in two third of the disseminated fungal sepsis. Fungal cerebral abscess is one of the severe complications of disseminated fungal sepsis. We report a case of multiple fungal brain abscesses in a term neonate, which was successfully treated with Liposomal Amphotericin B.

Introduction: Every society follows different practices to treat various childhood illnesses. Tribal populations are isolated from the general population by their own lifestyle and practices. The objective of the study was to assess the treatment practices of the Koraga tribes during diarrhoea in children. Materials and Methods: A descriptive survey using face-to-face interview technique was undertaken among 200 caretakers of Koraga tribe using a semi-structured questionnaire.
