Introduction

Supersensitivity psychosis is a phenomenon that occurs with chronic usage of antipsychotics secondary to treatment resistance. At this time, there are no standardized guidelines regarding the management of supersensitivity psychosis.

Case Presentation

We present a case of a patient with schizoaffective disorder who developed supersensitivity psychosis and acute dystonia in response to discontinuing psychotropic medications, including high-dose quetiapine and olanzapine. The patient presented with excessive anxiety, paranoia, bizarre thoughts, and generalized dystonia affecting the face, trunk, and extremities. We treated the patient with olanzapine, valproic acid, and diazepam, which alleviated the psychosis back to baseline and significantly improved the …

Introduction

Granulosa cell tumors (GCTs) are part of the sex cord-stromal tumors occurring with a rare incidence rate that only makes up about 2-5% of all ovarian malignancies.

Case Presentation

A 28-year-old woman, gravida 2, para 1, presented with a juvenile-type granulosa cell tumor at 31 weeks gestation, which appeared as a rapidly growing mass with rupture. She underwent an exploratory laparotomy with unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and consequently had a successful vaginal delivery. Post-operatively she was treated with paclitaxel and carboplatin chemotherapy regimen with no evidence of recurrence after one year.

Introduction

Calciphylaxis is a rare disorder that involves the formation of cutaneous, subcutaneous, and vascular calcifications. Although it is predominantly seen in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), it has also been reported in patients without chronic kidney disease. The presence of multiple risk factors, a poorly understood mechanism, high mortality, and the lack of standardized treatment make calciphylaxis an important subject.

Decreased readmission rates are largely seen as an indicator of effective care and improved resource management. The case management team at St. Petersburg General Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida identified chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation, pneumonia, and sepsis as 3 of the leading diagnoses on index admission that later led to 30-day readmissions. The Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) Dental Health Center sought to learn how COVID-19 affected dental care attainment and patient perceptions of appropriate safety measures, as well as their acceptance of the dental office as a site for COVID-19 vaccinations.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all newborns receive an intramuscular (IM) dose of vitamin K within 6 hours of delivery for the prevention of vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB). There has been an increase in the number of parents who have refused the IM vitamin K dose for their infant based on its possible link to leukemia, preservatives that may lead to adverse reactions, and wanting to avoid pain for the infant.
