Adhd Performance On Nonverbal Measures Of Set Shifting And Working Memory, S. Hans Stoltzfus Feb 2021

Adhd Performance On Nonverbal Measures Of Set Shifting And Working Memory, S. Hans Stoltzfus

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

The relationship between language and cognition is an area of inquiry among many psychologists (Pellicano, 2010; Russel, 1996). The connection between thoughts, verbal language, and nonverbal communication turned researchers towards the relationship between language and executive functioning. Executive functioning (EF) is described as tasks involving working memory, inhibition, and set shifting (Miyake and Friedman (2012)). Despite studies demonstrating the correlation between language deficits and lower executive functioning there is not consensus on the directionality of the relationship (Kuhn, et al 2014; Boting et al., 2017). Data from the Leiter International Performance Scale, Third Edition (Leiter-3) (Roid, et al., 2013) were …

Accuracy Of Exercise-Based Equations For Estimating Cardiorespiratory Fitness, James E. Peterman, Matthew P. Harber, Mary T. Imboden, Mitchell H. Whaley, Bradley S. Fleenor, Jonathan Myers, Ross Arena, Leonard A. Kaminsky

Faculty Publications - Department of Kinesiology

Equations are often used to predict cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) from submaximal or maximal exercise tests. However, no study has comprehensively compared these exercise-based equations with directly measured CRF using data from a single, large cohort. Purpose: This study aimed to compare the accuracy of exercise-based prediction equations with directly measured CRF and evaluate their ability to classify an individual’s CRF. Methods: The sample included 4871 tests from apparently healthy adults (38% female, age 44.4 ± 12.3 yr (mean ± SD)). Estimated CRF (eCRF) was determined from 2 nonexercise equations, 3 submaximal exercise equations, and 10 maximal exercise equations; all eCRF …

Objective:

To summarize and describe the current US surveillance systems that assess physical activity (PA) for work and commuting.

Methods:

An expert group conducted an environmental scan, generating a list (n = 18) which was ultimately reduced to 12, based on the inclusion of PA and/or sedentary behavior data.

Results:

The 12 surveys or surveillance systems summarized provide nationally representative data on occupational-level PA or individual-level PA at work, data on active commuting, some are scorecards that summarize workplace health best practices and allow benchmarking, and one is a comprehensive nationally representative survey of employers assessing programs and practices …

Does An Integrated Survey And Single Session Of Physical Therapy Counseling Activate People To Increase Physical Activity After Total Ankle Arthroplasty?, Jeff Houck, Marcey Keefer Hutchison, Ariana Blondo, Mark Holenstein, Clare Liu, Forrest Paxton, Haleigh Rabe, Megan Rogers, Frank Diliberto, Patrick Mcmahon, Brianna Becker Jan 2021

Does An Integrated Survey And Single Session Of Physical Therapy Counseling Activate People To Increase Physical Activity After Total Ankle Arthroplasty?, Jeff Houck, Marcey Keefer Hutchison, Ariana Blondo, Mark Holenstein, Clare Liu, Forrest Paxton, Haleigh Rabe, Megan Rogers, Frank Diliberto, Patrick Mcmahon, Brianna Becker

Student-Faculty Research - College of Physical Therapy

Patients following Total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) procedures demonstrate poor PROMIS scores in physical function (PF) and satisfaction with social roles (SR). Therefore, TAA patients are good candidates for motivational interviewing (MI) to assess what is meaningful to the patients and to activate them to increase movement.

Development Of A Patient Acceptable Symptom State (Pass) Question For Children With Consistent, Long-Term Disability, Meagan Dahl, Maddy St. John, Nicole Nelson, Kat Olennikov, Tara Paddock, Lisa Watson, Garth West, Ryan Jacobson Jan 2021

Development Of A Patient Acceptable Symptom State (Pass) Question For Children With Consistent, Long-Term Disability, Meagan Dahl, Maddy St. John, Nicole Nelson, Kat Olennikov, Tara Paddock, Lisa Watson, Garth West, Ryan Jacobson

Student-Faculty Research - College of Physical Therapy

Patient Acceptable Symptom State (PASS) is a single Yes/No question where a “yes” response indicates the minimal level of symptoms and function above which a person considers their current condition satisfactory.

➢ PASS has shown validity as an anchoring question for important health outcomes in adults with various diagnoses and in children with JIA (Strand 2011; Kvien 2007; Tubach 2012; Filocamo 2012; Consolaro 2012; Roos 2019). However, it has not been researched in children with consistent, long-term disability.

Hypotheses

- SWI will be present in full body squat with more force being produced through the lower extremity on the side that has the larger cube initially, with more vertical displacement of the large cube side as well

- Pre lift predictions will bias the larger cube, while post predictions will bias the smaller cube

- We also anticipate a larger vertical displacement on the side with the larger box following the fatigue protocol

Blood flow restriction (BFR) is an occlusion training program that utilizes a inflatable or mechanical tourniquet that limits blood flow in the arterial and venous system.

Research Question

Do PROMIS® measures correlate significantly enough with traditional measures of self-efficacy, physical performance, and real-world physical activity in a chronic stroke population to justify replacing their use in clinic?

Hypothesis

PROMIS® measures will demonstrate significant correlations with a variety of traditional measures and real world activity, which may allow us to use PROMIS® as a primary method of directing treatment interventions in those with chronic stroke.

Faculty Publications - College of Medical Science

Objectives: To describe the development and evaluation of a university-wide competency and evaluation framework for intra- and interprofessional education (IPE) teamwork.

Methods: Development of the framework was based on existing literature and specific contexts of the schools within our university. Evaluation and program alignment regarding use of the framework were achieved through qualitative interviews with deans of the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, and focused on how they evaluated student progression towards the university-wide teamwork competency. Interview data were analyzed using classical content analysis.

Results: Despite efforts to carefully design the framework, interviews revealed that significant variation exists regarding …

Comparison Of Non-Exercise Cardiorespiratory Fitness Prediction Equations In Apparently Healthy Adults, James E. Peterman, Mitchell H. Whaley, Matthew P. Harber, Bradley S. Fleenor, Mary T. Imboden, Jonathan Myers, Ross Arena, Leonard A. Kaminsky Jan 2021

Comparison Of Non-Exercise Cardiorespiratory Fitness Prediction Equations In Apparently Healthy Adults, James E. Peterman, Mitchell H. Whaley, Matthew P. Harber, Bradley S. Fleenor, Mary T. Imboden, Jonathan Myers, Ross Arena, Leonard A. Kaminsky

Faculty Publications - Department of Kinesiology

Aims: A recent scientific statement suggests clinicians should routinely assess cardiorespiratory fitness using at least non-exercise prediction equations. However, no study has comprehensively compared the many non-exercise cardiorespiratory fitness prediction equations to directly-measured cardiorespiratory fitness using data from a single cohort. Our purpose was to compare the accuracy of non-exercise prediction equations to directly-measured cardiorespiratory fitness and evaluate their ability to classify an individual's cardiorespiratory fitness.

Methods: The sample included 2529 tests from apparently healthy adults (42% female, aged 45.4 ± 13.1 years (mean±standard deviation). Estimated cardiorespiratory fitness from 28 distinct non-exercise prediction equations was compared with directly-measured cardiorespiratory fitness, …
