Australia's mine sites are largely situated in remote locations and operate around the clock. Many shift workers fly to site, where they work 12-hr shifts and sleep in camp accommodation before they return home for the period rostered off work. Mining shift workers experience poor sleep, yet limited research is available on contributing factors. This study investigated, for the first time, the relationship between the sleep health and sleep hygiene in this population. Background: Rehabilitation methods that include anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (atDCS) and extended reality (XR) exercises have been used to enhance neural networks and improve functional performance in stroke patients, but the neuromuscular and neurophysiological mechanisms underlying these improvements are not fully understood. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of atDCS during XR rehabilitation exercises on cortical, neuromuscular, and clinical outcomes of stroke survivors. In some cases, against medical advice, a person with cancer decides not to undergo any conventional, evidence-based cancer treatments including chemotherapy, radiotherapy hormone therapy and others. Estimates for treatment refusal range from 2.6% to 14.55%. Refusing evidence-based conventional cancer treatments is linked to rapid deterioration, poor prognosis and a higher risk of premature death. This study aimed to explore oncology health professionals’ experiences and views on why patients refuse standard cancer treatments. We employed an in-depth qualitative research design, adopting a social constructionist framework. Introduction: This paper reports the key findings of the Faculty of Radiation Oncology 2022 workforce census. This is the first census since the COVID-19 pandemic and questions have been updated to assess the impact on RANZCR trainees and fellows. This report focuses on the analysis of respondents from Australia, New Zealand and overseas members, with a separate paper to follow focusing exclusively on New Zealand respondents. Purpose: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) can cause arthrogenic muscle inhibition (AMI) or persistent muscle weakness that impairs physical function and return to sport. Deficits in voluntary activation (one method to measure AMI) are thought to contribute to AMI, however, the specific neurophysiological underpinnings remain inconclusive. This review examines the increasingly prominent role of mechanics within cancer formation and progression. The extremely varied and contradictory genetic landscape of cancer is in stark contrast to the seemingly universal mechanical characteristics of cancer cells and their tumour microenvironment, and mechanics may be a principal unifying trait of this disease. The tight regulation of innate cell mechanical properties raises the possibility that destabilisation of the cell drives tumour formation in an attempt to restore cell mechanical homeostasis. Background: Elevated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) levels are linked with cardiovascular disease and cognitive impairment, both of which are strong risk factors for late-life dementia (LLD). This study examined the association between hs-cTnI levels below the sex-specific 99th percentile for myocardial injury and the incidence of LLD in older women. Methods: 986 community-dwelling women aged ≥70 years without prior LLD and with hs-cTnI < 15.6 ng/L (stratified into quartiles) were included from the Perth Longitudinal Study of Ageing Women. The primary outcome was incident LLD events, including LLD hospitalisation or death, over 14.5 years obtained from linked health records. Associations between hs-cTnI and LLD outcomes were explored using multivariable-adjusted Cox models, as part of restricted cubic splines. Results: At baseline, participants' mean (±SD) age was 75.2±2.7 years. Over 14.5 years of follow-up, LLD events (n=174, 17.7%), hospitalisations (n=155, 15.7%) and deaths (n=68, 6.9%) were recorded. Compared with those in the lowest quartile (Q1, median 3.1 ng/L), women in the highest quartile of hs-cTnI (Q4, median 7.3 ng/L) had a greater risk of developing LLD-related events (adjusted HR: 1.88, 95% CI: 1.22 to 2.91), hospitalisation (adjusted HR: 1.65, 95% CI: 1.04 to 2.64) and death (adjusted HR: 2.27, 95% CI: 1.13 to 4.59), after adjusting for established cardiovascular and dementia risk factors, including apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype. Conclusion: Among older women, hs-cTnI levels below the sex-specific 99th percentile for myocardial injury were associated with an increased risk of LLD events over 14.5 years. These findings suggest that hs-cTnI may identify older women at higher risk of LLD, capturing both cardiovascular and brain health vulnerability in older age.

Objective: To determine how COVID-19-related stress influences food consumption and emotional overeating in adult women, and whether cognitive flexibility and physical activity mediate these relationships. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 303 women (20–50 y) completed validated Persian versions of the COVID Stress Scale-18, Adult Eating Behaviour Questionnaire, Self-Regulation of Eating Behaviour Questionnaire, Cognitive Flexibility Scale, and Rapid Assessment of Physical Activity. Background: Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating condition characterized by fatigue, post-exertional malaise, perceived muscle weakness and other symptoms. Whether muscle strength is objectively reduced in ME/CFS is unclear. Objective and methods: Our aim was to determine if muscle strength, muscle endurance, voluntary activation, and perceived effort during muscle endurance tasks are altered in ME/CFS by reviewing the relevant literature. Background: During pregnancy, the maternal body undergoes extensive physiological adaptations to support embryonic growth, including whole-body remodeling, that may induce odor and food aversions, as well as nausea and vomiting. The biological mechanisms behind odor and food aversions, as well as nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy, remain largely unexplored. Introduction: Metastatic melanoma carries a poor prognosis. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have improved outcomes, but responses remain variable, highlighting the need for simple prognostic biomarkers. Inflammatory markers such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) reflect tumour burden and inflammation, though their clinical utility is unstandardised.
