Postnatal Ontogeny Of Small Intestinal Histomorphology, Crypt Cell Proliferation And Peptide Transporter 1 Gene Expression In Piglets, Boonrit Thongsong, Sureerat Suthongsa, Massupha Wiyaporn

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Ontogeny of the morphology, cell proliferation, and peptide transporters in each region of the small intestine support optimal nutritional status and growth of pigs from early to later life. To assess these, growth of piglets was studied at birth (d 0), suckling (d 7), weaning (d 21) and post-weaning (d 28, 49 and 77) days. Hematology, small intestinal histomorphology, crypt cell proliferation, and peptide transporter 1 (PepT1) mRNA expression were measured from the animals at newborn, and at 7, 21, 49 and 77 days old. Among the three age groups (newborn to 21, 21 to 28 and 21 to 77 …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The objective of this study was to investigate Jakr-Na-Rai (Gynura divaricata) as a roughage source on growth performance, blood constituent, blood glucose and cholesterol in growing rabbits. Twenty-four 7-week-old New Zealand White rabbits (12 males and 12 females) were randomly allocated into 3 groups of 8 with equal sex. The rabbits in the first group were fed on commercial feed while the rabbits in the 2nd and 3rd groups were fed the same as first group and supplemented with para grass (Brachiaria mutica) and Jakr-Na-Rai, respectively. The rabbits were raised in individual cages in opened house and received feed and …

Growth And Survival Of Brown Shrimp (Farfantepenaeus Aztecus) In A Closed Recirculation Seawater System At Different Salinities, Roberto Pérez-Castañeda, Jesús Genaro Sánchez-Martínez, Gabriel Aguirre-Guzmán Mar 2012

Growth And Survival Of Brown Shrimp (Farfantepenaeus Aztecus) In A Closed Recirculation Seawater System At Different Salinities, Roberto Pérez-Castañeda, Jesús Genaro Sánchez-Martínez, Gabriel Aguirre-Guzmán

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Growth and survival of juvenile brown shrimp (Farfantepenaeus aztecus) in a closed recirculation seawater system at two salinities (33 and 38‰) were evaluated during 4 weeks in experimental tanks. Although the specific growth rate (SGR) was slightly higher at the treatment of 38‰ than at 33‰, no significant differences were detected for the different time intervals analyzed; however, the growth in terms of both body weight and total length was significantly faster at 38‰. In this regard, the increase in weight and total length obtained at 38‰ were 0.33 g/week and 2.15 mm/week, respectively, whereas at 33‰ were 0.21 g/week …
