While West Virginia (WV) offers low vision rehabilitation programs to enhance occupational performance, several challenges remain unresolved. This doctoral capstone project aimed to collaborate with low vision professionals to deliver comprehensive low vision services and advocate for the integration of occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) in the low vision field. A needs assessment and literature review were conducted to identify gaps and develop strategies for addressing the gaps. BACKGROUND: Two-thirds of U.S. children and adolescents report experiencing one or more potentially traumatic events by age seventeen. 13.4% of the North Carolina pediatric population ages 0-17 have undergone two or more traumatic adverse childhood experiences, compared to 14% of the U.S. population. While “preferring” their stronger hand, they often partially or completely ignore their “non-preferred” hand. Such manual lateralization might impede complex object exploration, which would negatively affect children’s cognitive development. We aimed to investigate the frequency of sensitization/allergy to Cupressus arizonica pollen, which is not native to Anatolia. Materials and methods: Patients aged 5?18 years who underwent respiratory allergy screening in Türkiye?s largest referral center over a 1-year period were reviewed retrospectively for a diagnostic study of Cupressus allergy. Reporting The Clinical Spectrum Of Children With Igav In A Retrospective 24-Year Cohort: Influences Of Age And Sex On Clinical Presentation, Sema Yildirim, Müferet Ergüven

Background/aim: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) is one of the most common types of vasculitis in children. The aims of this study were to investigate the clinical characteristics of the disease, and the effects of age and sex on the clinical course in children with IgAV. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective study including pediatric patients diagnosed with IgAV who attended follow-ups at the pediatric rheumatology department of a tertiary healthcare institution between January 1997 and December 2020. The patients were grouped and compared according to sex and age at diagnosis (<7 years vs. ?7 years). Results: The study included 709 children with IgAV, 392 (55.3%) of whom were male. The mean age at diagnosis was 7.9 ± 3.2 years. The most common disease onset season was autumn (31.2%). Upper respiratory infections (27.8%) were the most common predisposing factors. Gastrointestinal system (GIS), joint, and renal involvement were observed in 52.8%, 47.5%, and 17.5% of patients, respectively. Renal involvement, GIS involvement, and disease relapse were significantly more common among those diagnosed after 7 years of age compared to those diagnosed before the age of 7 (p < 0.001, p = 0.033, and p < 0.001, respectively). Scrotal involvement and subcutaneous edema were more common among those diagnosed at younger than 7 years compared to those aged ?7 years at diagnosis (p < 0.001 and p = 0.016, respectively). GIS involvement was more frequently seen in males compared to females (p = 0.046). Conclusion: It was demonstrated that being ?7 years of age at diagnosis or being a male were associated with higher likelihood of renal and GIS involvement in children with IgAV.

We investigated associations between parent-reported and child-reported DD, T1D device use, and child glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in 157 families of school-age children.

As the use of psychotropic medications to treat mental illness increases across the lifespan, the need for psychopharmacology training for counselors intensifies. Research by Sepulveda (2011) concluded that counselor educators are not overwhelmingly supportive of including a psychopharmacology course in CACREP–approved school counselor curricula. Expanding on Sepulveda’s (2011) work, our findings indicate that most CACREP-approved counseling programs do not offer psychological or psychopharmacology courses. Most program directors favor such courses in their programs, and agree that licensed counselors are routinely confronted with medication issues in professional settings.
