How Essential Oils Help Prevent Against Healthcare Workers’ Burnout, Lauren Casey
How Essential Oils Help Prevent Against Healthcare Workers’ Burnout, Lauren Casey
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
This project set out to see if stress and anxiety (leading to burnout) could be combatted with the use of essential oils (EOs). Burnout is a common concern amongst the medical community and healthcare providers are leaving their jobs and field at unprecedented rates. While EOs have been used for patients, they are rarely used for the healthcare providers’ benefit. Because of that, this project wanted to focus on the employee for a change, which in turn would benefit the patient by having a mentally-present provider and the company by having less turnover. The project consisted of a pre-survey prior …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
Abstract
Conservative Anabaptists description of delay in health seeking behaviors, comfort in connectedness, and ease in cultural tension when seeking and responding to healthcare
Background: Conservative Anabaptists are a large ethnic religious population that continues to grow in the United States. This includes groups of Amish, Mennonites, Hutterites, and Brethren populations residing in rural areas. These groups are known to experience adverse health related outcomes such as community acquired infections, advanced cancer diagnosis, and undiagnosed chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. Therefore, the concept transcending health values has been developed to better understand how conservative anabaptists describe …

Experiences Of Transgender Adults Living In West Virginia, Kerry M. Drabish
Experiences Of Transgender Adults Living In West Virginia, Kerry M. Drabish
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
Background: Transgender adults experience disrespect, rejection, and discrimination. This is further complicated by the incongruence and internal conflict stemming from pressure to conform to a binary system of gender. Studies describing the experiences of transgender adults are limited. Therefore, the concept coexisting between the assigned and identified self was developed to better understand how transgender adults acknowledge turmoil and marginalization in coming to embrace identity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was twofold: (1) describe the experiences of transgender adults living in WV, and (2) gather empirical evidence about the concept coexisting between the assigned and identified self. The …

The healthcare industry has undergone substantial changes that influence how hospitals evaluate success. Legislation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS.gov, 2023) that informs reimbursement levels of patient populations in all U.S. hospitals require organizations to focus on patient experiences, more specifically on scores from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey, referred to as HCAHPS (pronounced H-caps). The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey or CAHPS® Hospital Survey or Hospital CAHPS® (CAHPS ® is a registered trademark of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality). Barriers To Obtaining Healthcare In The United States, Nikita Laungani
Nursing | Senior Theses
One barrier to obtaining healthcare in the United States (U.S.) has been the type of healthcare insurance that someone has. It is important for nurses to understand the impact of the patient’s access to care, which is a factor in their health outcomes. Health insurance, race and ethnicity, income, and zip code are at the top of a long list of social determinants of health that affects where and how they receive care. To find out more about how barriers to obtaining healthcare affect outcomes, I researched various types of barriers around the country. It is important to understand how …

Prescription Opioid Misuse And Addiction: Healthcare’S Contribution To The Opioid Epidemic And What Can Be Done About It, Emily Larsen, Katrina Ecke
Nursing | Senior Theses
Up to one in four patients undergoing prolonged opioid therapy in a primary care setting battle opioid addiction. In 2020, the CDC found that more than 16,000 deaths involving prescription opioids (limited to natural and semi-synthetic opioids and methadone) had occurred, which is equivalent to about 45 deaths per day. Opioid overdose death can be identified through three distinct waves; increased prescribing of opioids in the 1990’s began the first wave, the beginning of the second wave came in 2010 with a rapid increase in heroin related overdose deaths, and in 2013 the third wave began with a significant increase …

Methods: A literature review was performed of credible databases. Six articles were reviewed extensively highlighting the purpose, strengths, and limitations of each study. Refer to Appendix A for the literature review table.
Findings: …
