In the past decade there has been a multitude of phase 3 clinical trials targeting treatment shortening for tuberculosis (TB). The synthetic rifamycin derivative rifapentine (RPT) has been at the forefront of many of the treatment shortening approaches. RPT possesses greater potency and a longer pharmacokinetic (PK) half-life (t_1/2) as compared with the long used rifamycin, rifampin (RIF). Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of surgical procedures and can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. AKI can be described by a sudden decline in kidney function, evidenced by elevation of serum creatinine, elevated blood urea nitrogen levels, and a decreased glomerular filtration rate (McCance & Huether, 2018, p. 1360). Optimal perioperative management and recognition of patients at high risk for AKI is important in preventing the development of acute kidney injury.

BACKGROUND: Cancer diagnosis and treatment are tragic issues for patients. Besides the psychological aspects associated with therapeutic interventions, chemotherapy-induced painful peripheral neuropathy (CIPPN) is one of the long-term side effects of intravenous chemotherapeutic agents used to treat cancers. This type of neuropathic pain has not effectively responded to medications for peripheral neuropathy treatment. Duloxetine is effective in decreasing CIPPN. This is a common condition that is primarily diagnosed among children, but can persist throughout adulthood. Twenty peer-reviewed articles are analyzed in this expanded literature review. This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design using secondary data from a 2018 national survey of working-age individuals ages 18 to 45.
