Uncontrolled diabetes may cause preventable but significant effects. One major preventative measure is early screening; there are hopes that community healthcare workers can increase awareness and screening availability, especially in underserved populations. We hosted and recorded logs of patients at mobile COVID health clinics, educating those with uncontrolled diabetes and connecting them to healthcare. We then looked to see if any patients had improvements in blood glucose to non-diabetic levels. 378 patients were logged, but only 138 were in events that had a significant amount of repeat visits. Research has provided growing evidence that chronic failure to get enough sleep is associated with increased risk for obesity, depression, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and mortality. Sleep deprivation is threatening the health of up to 45% of the world's population. Furthermore, sleep disorders were found to be associated with significantly higher rates of health care utilization and cost, accounting for $94.9 billion in costs each year in the United States. Background: Pacemaker leads within the breast are rare. Although it is infrequent, there are some reports of implanted cardiac devices or wires migrating into breast tissue or through the chest wall. To the best of our knowledge, there are no current reports of pacemaker leads within the breast tissue of a patient with concurrent breast cancer. Introduction: This study aimed to assess the healthcare experiences of transmasculine individuals in primary and gynecological care settings. An online, anonymous survey was conducted to gather insights into positive and adverse encounters, factors influencing care-seeking behaviors, and strategies for improving care delivery in this population.

Methods: A survey was administered between June 1st and July 23rd, 2023, recruiting participants from three LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare offices in South Jersey and via Reddit. Data analysis involved SPSS to gain information from 499 valid responses.

It is theorized that low concentrations of dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE) within in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) following traumatic brain injury (TBI) leads to increased risky behavior. Our lab has shown that repeated mild TBI (rmTBI) sex-differentially increases risky behavior in a rodent model. Methylphenidate (MPH) is a psychostimulant drug used to treat symptoms of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), also driven by a hypo-catecholaminergic PFC. Characteristic signs of Parkinson’s include pill-rolling tremor, stooped posture, and shuffling gate. Patients with this disease can also develop oropharyngeal dysfunction, which can disable patients from meeting their physiologic needs. Understanding this disability and the changes in mastication kinematics can lead to potential future treatment. Our study induced Parkinson’s in rats with rotenone injections. There is limited data available on the impact of hyperlipidemia (HLD) on VA-ECMO patients. We sought to examine the national inpatient sample (NIS) database to describe in-hospital outcomes among these patients.

Ewing Sarcoma (EWS) rarely presents in the bones of the foot, and particularly in the cuboid, making it an exceedingly rare occurrence. We present the case of a 7-year-old female diagnosed with EWS of the right cuboid, detailing the management and outcomes of this rare presentation. The patient, now almost 5 years post-initial local control, exhibits restored foot function, a normalized gait, and no evidence of disease recurrence. This case underscores the potential for preserving lower extremity function and improving postoperative quality of life in rare presentations of EWS through innovative reconstruction strategies.

We report a case of a 67-year-old male who presented to the emergency department (ED) for palpitations and complaint of his automated implantable cardioverter defibrillator (AICD) firing at home who had multiple episodes of persistent ventricular tachycardia (VT) during his course of stay in the ED. Patients with pacemakers and AICDs can present an additional layer of complexity when treating these conditions. Temporary overdrive pacing (TOP) should be considered as a treatment to correct refractory ventricular tachycardia in patients with implanted pacemakers and AICDs presenting to the ED.

Esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction (EGJOO) is a major motility disorder characterized by an increase of > 15 mmHg in the integrated relaxation pressure (IRP) with or without problems in esophageal motility. This presents as dysphagia, chest pain, regurgitation, heartburn, cough, and a globus sensation, with dysphagia. Severe cases may lead to a megaesophagus causing compression of mediastinal structures.6 Its similarity to other esophageal disorders urge an investigation to improve its identification and treatment. This report presents a case of EGJOO in a 37-year-old cachectic male patient with dysphagia and vomiting, eventually determined to be EGJOO with diagnostic manometry.

Here we present the case of a male in his 70’s who presented with diarrhea and a syncopal episode and was ultimately diagnosed with BRASH syndrome. The acronym BRASH is a novel way to describe the constellation of symptoms that result in unfortunate synergistic affects that can result in profound bradycardia. In the setting of hyperkalemia and concurrent use of atrioventricular nodal blockers, there is potential for a worsening bradycardia and inevitable cardiovascular collapse if not identified.

We report a case of a 28-year-old male with months of diffuse, pleuritic, intermittent, non-exertional chest pain. He had an elevated troponin and ECG showing Wellens’ syndrome and was found to have 80% LAD coronary artery occlusion and 100% apical occlusion. Identification and proper management of Wellens’ syndrome relies on being familiar with its ECG patterns. Other information such as age, cardiac risk factors, chest pain with exertion and at rest, and elevated troponin, are all helpful supplemental information, but as demonstrated in the following case report, presentations may vary or even cause as distractors to the diagnosis.

Mature cystic teratomas (MCTs) constitute 70% of all ovarian neoplasms. They typically present with nonspecific symptoms such as pain and nausea. They account for approximately 2% of all primary ovarian malignant cancers and are predominately diagnosed via ultrasound. Computed tomography may be necessary if malignancy is suspected. Hemivertebrae are rare congenital anomalies that can cause severe scoliosis requiring surgical correction. We aimed to determine whether severity of deformities is associated with more long-term surgical complications following surgical correction.

Methods:

We performed a retrospective, single-institution review on patients who underwent hemivertebrectomy and spinal fusion for congenital scoliosis between 2008-2020. We extracted pertinent data on demographics, radiographic parameters, operative details, and complication rates. Subgroup analyses were also done by complication severity, deformity complexity, and construct length.
