Data From: Lactose Intolerance: Lack Of Evidence For Short Stature Or Vitamin D Deficiency In Prepubertal Children, Nithya Setty-Shah, Louise S. Maranda, Ninfa Candela, Jay G. Fong, Idris Dahod, Alan D. Rogol, Benjamin U. Nwosu

Benjamin U. Nwosu

Background: The health consequences of lactose intolerance (LI) are unclear. Aims: To investigate the effects of LI on stature and vitamin D status. Hypotheses: LI subjects will have similar heights and vitamin D status as controls. Subjects and Methods: Prepubertal children of ages 3-12 years with LI (n=38, age 8.61 ± 3.08y, male/female 19/19) were compared to healthy, age- and gender-matched controls (n=49, age 7.95±2.64, male/female 28/21). Inclusion criteria: prepubertal status (boys: testicular volume Results: There was no significant difference in 25(OH)D between the LI and non-LI subjects (60.1±21.1, vs. 65.4 ± 26.1 nmol/L, p = 0.29). Upon stratification into …

ANIL JAIN DR ANIL JAIN

ABSTRACT Introduction “ CESSATION OF LIFE IS INEVITABLE “ ........... PROLONGING AT WHAT COST ? " LIVING WILL " Many thousands of patients are kept alive in comatose and permanently vegetative states. Have we ever considered the sufferings and pain of the patient who is not able to speak and the cost burden to their families & government . Nearly 80% of all deaths are unnecessarily prolonged, painful, expensive, and emotionally burdensome to both patients and their families . In underdeveloped countries where health care is not a part of Government system, patients and their families pay from their pocket …

Hamamatsu FLASH4.0 dark reference images, acquired with 10 second exposure times, no light to camera. Camera offset (set by Hamamatsu( is ~100 (the average intensity of the first image is always ~1 intensity level higher - an odd feature, but trivial in practice for a 16-bit camera).

The Implications Of Genomics On The Nursing Care Of Adults With Neuropsychiatric Conditions, Debra L. Schutte Phd, Rn, Marilyn A. Davies Phd, Rn, Emilie D. Goris Bsn, Rn

Faculty Publications

Purpose: Neuropsychiatric disorders contribute substantially to disease burden and quality of life across the lifespan and the globe. The purpose of this article is to review the state of the science regarding genomic contributions to selected common neuropsychiatric conditions and to examine the consequent immediate and future implications for nursing practice and research. Organizing Construct: Our work is guided by an ecological model that recognizes that common diseases are complex or multifactorial, meaning that multiple genomic and environmental factors contribute to their etiology. Methods: A review of the literature was conducted to determine the state of the science in relationship …

Tpn Collaboration And Nutrition Screening Value Stream, Kimberly Procaccino

Kimberly Procaccino

The TPN collaboration section of the presentation outlines the importance of "team" in enhancing nutrition response/patient outcomes via allocation of "time" for RD and MD/extender case load rounding. The nutrition screening section reports results of the regulary risk associated with the current nutrition screening process and plan for correction to reduce or eliminate risk.

Tattletales is my concept for spatial multiplexing many fluorescent protein (FP) biosensors in the same live cell. For example, there are excellent FP biosensors to Ca++ ions, pH, glucose, ribose, glutamine, glutamate, ATP, redox, ROS, pyruvate, cAMP, cGMP, IP3, PI(3,4,5)P3, cell cycle indicators (Fucci2), PKA, PKC, photsphatases, caspase(s) [1, 2]. However, these are typically used one biosensor per experiment, due in part to flooding …

Phi X 174, David J. Hall

Infectious Pathogens

Phi X 174 database number # 1CD3. Phi X 174 is a virus that infects bacteria and was the first DNA-based genome to be sequenced in 1977. This bacteriophage has a [+] circular single-stranded DNA genome. The assembly of the capsid has been successfully done in vitro and is the focus of many studies on self-assembly, drug delivery and nanotechnology.

Human Papilloma Virus 16, David J. Hall

Infectious Pathogens

Human Papilloma virus 16, database# 1DZL Infection by most papillomaviruses is either asymptomatic or causes small benign tumors, known as papillomas or warts (e.g. human papillomavirus HPV6 or HPV11). Papillomas caused by some types, however, such as human papillomaviruses 16 and 18, carry a risk of becoming cancerous. Human papilloma virus is a non-enveloped, double stranded, circular DNA virus.

Dengue Virus, David J. Hall Jan 2013

Dengue Virus, David J. Hall

Infectious Pathogens

Dengue virus, database # 1THD Dengue fever, is an infectious tropical disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by mosquito. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash that is similar to measles. In a small proportion of cases the disease develops into the life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever. Dengue is a positive strand RNA virus that is part of the flavivirus family. Dengue is an enveloped virus meaning it has a nucleocapsid protecting the RNA and the nucleocapsid is surrounded by lipids (hence the name enveloped).

Hepatitis B, David J. Hall

Infectious Pathogens

Hepatitis B, database # 2g33. Hepatitis B is an infectious inflammatory illness of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a member of the Hepadnavirus family. The virus particle, (virion) consists of an outer lipid envelope and an icosahedral nucleocapsid core composed of protein. These virions are 42 nM in diameter. The nucleocapsid encloses the viral DNA and a DNA polymerase that has reverse transcriptase activity.
