Comparison Of Elisa With Other Serological Tests In The Diagnosis Of Ovine Brucellosis, Hasan Öngör, Adi̇le Muz, Burhan Çeti̇nkaya

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, antibodies against Brucella melitensis in aborted sheep were investigated with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), standard tube agglutination test (SAT), rose bengal plate test (RBPT), complement fixation test (CFT), 2-mercaptoethanol microagglutination test (2-ME-MAT)and dithiothreitol microagglutination test (DTT-MAT). The sensitivity and specificity of the tests were calculated by using CFT results as the gold standard. A Kappa value was used to measure the agreements between ELISA and the other tests. Sonicated antigen prepared from Brucella melitensis 16M strain, the peroxidase labelled anti-sheep IgG conjugate and ortho-phenylenediamine substrate were used in ELISA. A total of 500 blood samples collected from 36 sheep …

This study was conducted to investigate the possibilities of developing terminal male and female lines for lamb production by the crossing of native breeds, that is, Akkaraman, Sakız (Chios) and Kıvırcık breeds. The Akkaraman sheep is a fattailed breed raised in central Anatolia, while Sakız and Kıvırcık sheep aren non fattailed breeds raised in western and northern-western Anatolia. The Birth rate of Akkaraman x Akkaraman (AA), Sakız x Akkaraman (SA) and Kıvırcık x Akkaraman (KA) breeding groups were generally found as follows: 94.0, 78.6 and 74.0% in 1996; and 93.3, 90.8 and 85.0% in 1997, respectively. The survival rate of …

Of these 154 sheep, 56 were pregnant, 57 aborted in the previous year and the remaining 41 sheep aborted within the period of the study. Sera obtained properly from these blood samples were examined by Sabine-Feldman (SF) test. Seropositivity for Toxoplasma gondiiinfection was determined in 72 (46.8%) of the 154 sheep at the titers ranging from 1/16 to 1/1024. The seropositivity rates of …

A deficiency in the slow moving gamma globulin in an eight-month-old emaciated female Awassi sheep is described. Analysis of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) on cellulose acetate of this sheep revealed the presence of three fractions only; albumin (alb), a and b compared with that of the normal sheep which showed four fractions (alb, a and b and g).This finding occurred in a ewe which belonged to a closed breeding system awassi flock. Results of agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test using rabbit anti-sheep IgG showed precipitate line with the serum of this sheep. Analysis of sera from her mother, the sister …
