Predictors Of Belongingness In First-Year College Students: Examining Mental Health And Adjustment, Jordan D. Foreman-Black Dec 2024

Predictors Of Belongingness In First-Year College Students: Examining Mental Health And Adjustment, Jordan D. Foreman-Black

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

The initial transition to college is a pivotal moment for emerging adults, often influencing whether a student will remain successful. Students face a significant challenge adapting to the new environment that has been compounded by their experiences through the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, a sense of belonging for students has been shown to be a key aspect of a successful transition to college. Students are often confronted with increasing levels of mental health challenges throughout the transition, specifically experiencing increasing mental health difficulties or challenges throughout their initial adjustment to college. Moreover, parents have become increasingly involved in students’ …

Exploring The Contribution Of Mobile Money To The Well-Being Of Rural Tanzanian Villagers And Assessing Their Readiness To Adopt A Similar Model To Advance Their Healthcare Access An Exploratory Study, Sr. Magdalena P. Chubwa Dec 2024

Exploring The Contribution Of Mobile Money To The Well-Being Of Rural Tanzanian Villagers And Assessing Their Readiness To Adopt A Similar Model To Advance Their Healthcare Access An Exploratory Study, Sr. Magdalena P. Chubwa

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background: Healthcare for rural villages in Tanzania has always been rudimentary. Lack of the infrastructure and poverty are among the many obstacles facing this population’s access to healthcare. While, the rise of telehealth has improved access to healthcare in many parts of the world, its use in rural Tanzania has been extremely limited to poor internet access. However, given the availability of non-internet connected mobile phones in rural Tanzania, the potential to use this devise to improve healthcare access exists. Individuals using mobile phones for financial transactions may be motivated to access healthcare via telehealth by using their non-internet connected …

Trypanosoma cruzi is a protozoan parasite that causes Chagas disease. Globally 6 to 7 million people are infected by this parasite of which 20-30% will progress to develop Chronic Chagasic Cardiomyopathy (CCC). Despite its high disease burden, no clinically approved vaccine exists for the prevention or treatment of CCC. Developing vaccines that can stimulate T. cruzi-specific CD8+ cytotoxic T cells and eliminate infected cells requires targeting parasitic antigens presented on major histocompatibility complex-I (MHC-I) molecules. We utilized mass spectrometry-based immunopeptidomics to investigate which parasitic peptides are displayed on MHC-I of T. cruzi infected cells. Through duplicate experiments, we identified an …

Objective: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) increases the risk of fetal overgrowth as measured by two-dimensional ultrasonography. Whether fetal three-dimensional (3D) soft tissue and organ volumes provide additional insight into fetal overgrowth is unknown.

Research design and methods: We prospectively evaluated longitudinal 3D fetal body composition and organ volumes in a diverse U.S. singleton pregnancy cohort (2015-2019). Women were diagnosed with GDM, impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), or normal glucose tolerance (NGT). Up to five 3D ultrasound scans measured fetal body composition and organ volumes; trajectories were modeled using linear mixed models. Overall and weekly mean differences in fetal 3D trajectories were …

A New Ex Vivo Model System To Analyze Factors Affecting The Integrity Of Fetal Membranes In Fetoscopic Surgery, Serjosha Robmann, Raoul Hopf, Costanza Giampietro, Lukas Moser, Alexandra Dolder, Magdalena Sanz Cortes, Martin Ehrbar, Nicole Ochsenbein, Jan Deprest, Edoardo Mazza Dec 2024

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

We developed an ex vivo model system to analyze the influence of relevant environmental and mechanical factors potentially affecting the integrity of fetal membranes during fetoscopic surgery. The set-up exposes amniochorion membranes to insufflation at predefined levels of gas pressure, flow, humidity, and temperature. Change in fetal membranes stiffness is quantified during the phase mimicking surgery through measurement of membranes' strain in response to cyclic overpressure. The trocar induced perforation creates a mechanical weakness whose stability is assessed by increasing the insufflation pressure until membrane rupture. Damage of the epithelial cells lining the amnion is assessed through live-dead staining. Initial …

Understanding Patients’ Experiences During Transitions From One Electronic Health Record To Another: A Scoping Review, Alison M Cogan, Trenton M Haltom, Stephanie L Shimada, Jessica A Davila, Bryan P Mcginn, Gemmae M Fix Dec 2024

Understanding Patients’ Experiences During Transitions From One Electronic Health Record To Another: A Scoping Review, Alison M Cogan, Trenton M Haltom, Stephanie L Shimada, Jessica A Davila, Bryan P Mcginn, Gemmae M Fix

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Objectives: Identify existing research on impacts of transitions between electronic health record (EHR) systems on patients' healthcare experiences.

Methods: Scoping review. We searched MedLine, OVID, Embase, CINAHL, and PsycInfo databases for articles on patient experiences with EHR-to-EHR transitions.

Results: Three studies met inclusion criteria. All three used validated surveys to compare patient satisfaction with care pre- and post-transition. The surveys did not include specific questions about the EHR transition; one study focused on patient perceptions of provider computer use. Satisfaction levels initially decreased following EHR implementation, then returned to baseline between six and 15 months later in two of three …

The Impact Of Armed Conflicts On Hiv Treatment Outcomes In Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Hafte Kahsay Kebede, Hailay Abrha Gesesew, Amanuel Tesfay Gebremedhin, Paul Ward Dec 2024

The Impact Of Armed Conflicts On Hiv Treatment Outcomes In Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Hafte Kahsay Kebede, Hailay Abrha Gesesew, Amanuel Tesfay Gebremedhin, Paul Ward

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background: Despite the fact that Sub-Saharan Africa bears a disproportionate burden of armed conflicts and HIV infection, there has been inadequate synthesis of the impact of armed conflict on HIV treatment outcomes. We summarized the available evidence on the impact of armed conflicts on HIV treatment outcomes in Sub-Saharan Africa from 2002 to 2022. Methods: We searched four databases; MEDLINE, PubMed, CINHAL, and Scopus. We also explored grey literature sources and reviewed the bibliographies of all articles to identify any additional relevant studies. We included quantitative studies published in English from January 1, 2002 to December 30, 2022 that reported …
