La foreuse à béquille pneumatique est un outil fort utilisé dans les mines du Québec à cause de sa flexibilité et de son coût relativement faible. C'est un outil à percussion auquel un mouvement de rotation a été combiné pour le forage. La percussion est assurée parles chocs d'un piston à l'intérieur du corps de l'appareil.

Le personnel soignant constitue une population très touchée par les accidents de travail. Ces accidents, pour une bonne part, se produisent alors qu'on manutentionne un bénéficiaire et entraînent des blessures musculosquelettiques, en particulier des maux de dos (Biering-Sorensen et al, 1981; Ferguson, 1970; Hoover, 1973; Pines et al, 1985).

Il est actuellement difficile de bien prévenir ces accidents car on comprend mal comment et pourquoi ils surviennent. Les études concernant les policiers-patrouilleurs menées à l'Institut de recherche en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) font suite aux demandes des associations paritaires en santé et en sécurité du travail - Affaires Provinciales (APSSAP) et Affaires Municipales (APSAM). En novembre 1985, l'IRSST examine l'ensemble des lésions professionnelles qui ont justifié le versement d'une indemnisation à des policiers par la CSST. L'objectif majeur de ce travail tient à concevoir et développer un nouvel équipement de protection collective pour les travaux de coffrage, de bétonnage et autres tâches lors de la construction des édifices en béton. De plus, les objectifs secondaires visent la fabrication d'un prototype de garde-corps ayant les propriétés suivantes:

• simple de fabrication et facile à utiliser;
• efficace pour l'ensemble des postes de travail;
• exempt de risques pour les opérations;
• durable et de coût compétitif en regard des systèmes conventionnels.

Enfin, le rapport propose de nouveaux critères de conception s'appliquant à la fabrication de garde-corps.

Au Québec, l'utilisation de débusqueuses est très répandue dans l'entreprise forestière pour sortir les arbres abattus de la forêt. Ne possédant pas de suspension primaire, ces véhicules soumettent leurs conducteurs à des vibrations de basses fréquences de grande amplitude telle que démontrée par des mesures effectuées en milieu de travail^[1]. Ces vibrations sont d'autant plus accentuées que les pneus représentent les seuls mécanismes d'amortissement, les sièges n'étant généralement pas suspendus dans la plupart des modèles de débusqueuses utilisés.

Dans le cadre d'une analyse de détermination de l'ampleur des coûts indirects des accidents du travail, mesurer la relation existant entre les coûts indirects et les coûts directs.

Subséquemment à cette étape, proposer un cadre de référence théorique de détermination des coûts indirects et, suite à une analyse empirique multi-variée, tester la validité du cadre de référence proposé.

Finalement, proposer et diffuser auprès des intervenants d'autres méthodes d'estimation des coûts indirects permettant une plus grande fiabilité.

L'étude d'accidents, survenus lorsque des machines, principalement de chantier, entrent en contact ou amorcent des arcs avec des lignes électriques sous tension, représentent une phase importante du projet de développement d'un dispositif limiteur de portée pour grues mobiles conventionnelles.

The purpose of this study was to assess the nutritional value of selected Northeast Iowa school lunch programs. This was done by analyzing a consecutive five day sample of the main line lunch from 6 rural schools and 1 metropolitan school. Mean daily nutrient values were obtained through the use of the Dine System for diet analysis. Comparisons were made between the elementary and secondary school lunch programs and also with one-third of the recommended dietary allowances (RDA) and between the urban and rural school programs. This study was designed to describe the nature and extent of health promotion programs in Bremer and Black Hawk Counties, Iowa. A questionnaire was designed and mailed to 74 organizations and agencies in these two counties. The study was delimited to an employee population of 100 and above. Results of the study were based on responses received from 62 (88.6%) of these organizations and agencies. Descriptive statistics were used in analyzing the data, Subjects were asked whether or not their organization currently offered a full or partial health promotion program for employees. The purpose of this study was to investigate the nutrition knowledge of wait staff in 24-hour, full menu/table service restaurants. Also explored was the relationship of sex, age, education level, average number of hours worked per week, total length of employment as a wait staff member, and personal dietary interest to knowledge of nutrition in wait staff. In the fall of 1990, 160 questionnaires were delivered to wait staff at eight 24-hour, full menu/table service restaurants in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. Previous reports on the safety of exercise testing have been based on surveys from different testing facilities with a variety of testing protocols and patient types. From 1971 through 1987, 71,914 maximal exercise tests conducted in a population with a low prevalence of known coronary heart disease under uniform conditions at a single medical facility resulted in six major cardiac complications including one death. No complications have occurred in the past 10 years in 45,000 maximal tests. The overall cardiac complication rate in men and women is 0.8 complications per 10,000 tests with 95% confidence intervals of 0.3-1.9 complications per …

Family .screening for medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) is important for detecting members of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2) families who may be gene carriers but show no clinical evidence of the disease. Most members of our MEN 2 families are screened yearly by measuring basal and pentagastrin-stimulated calcitonin (CT) levels. A 15-year-old first-degree relative of an affected member of the D-kindred showed a normal basal and an elevated stimulated CT level. Clinical examination, ultrasonography, and scintigraphy were normal. Thyroidectomy and bilateral neck dissection revealed a multicentric MTC with no lymph node involvement.
