The Impact Of Nutrition On The Mental And Physical Health Of Young Adults, Dareena El-Far
The Impact Of Nutrition On The Mental And Physical Health Of Young Adults, Dareena El-Far
WRIT: Journal of First-Year Writing
Upon close examination by nutritional professionals, concern has arisen regarding the typical contents of a young adult diet. In terms of the rate at which young adults choose to consume nutritionally-dense food items, the rate at which nutrition-deficient junk food items are chosen over the former is significantly higher. Among further examinations of this issue by researchers, it has become evident that the nutritional decisions made by young adults are increasingly associated with several social, commercial, mental, educational, and economic influences. As a consequence of these factors, research has uncovered a connection between the consumption of a poor diet and …

The Effects Of Stress Mindset Interventions On University Students' Health And Functioning, Abigail Fate
Undergraduate Honors Papers
In modern society, the overwhelming cultural narrative proclaims that stress is detrimental to health and should be limited and avoided at all costs. However, recent research has demonstrated that it is one’s stress mindset, rather than their stress level, that determines the psychological and physiological outcomes. Mindsets are lenses that simplify and order the world, and have been proven to influence daily behavioral and physiological responses to create cascading effects. Recent research has demonstrated that one’s mindset about stress is the demining factor in health, performance, and productivity in response to stressful conditions, and that these mindsets can be manipulated …

Sexual trauma is an unfortunate but a common and often masked experience for many students in America. While sexual trauma in itself is not a mental health disorder, it can become a risk factor for many academic and mental health problems. Trauma-informed schools can play an important role in helping students deal with the aftercare of a traumatic experience.

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
The thesis exhibition I create will be an installation that is centered around a fictional narrative starring a vivacious mental patient, and containing the people, places, and things in which she interacts with in her life at the hospital. As the audience moves through the gallery, they are immersed into the main character's world, seeing and analyzing the rooms and objects through the eyes and mind of the protagonist. The confidence in which the patient speaks of her environment could lead spectators to believe that her experiences in the hospital are an irrefutable truth. It is only after closely looking …
Depression And Evangelical Christian Spirituality: Exploring A Theoretical Model, Katheryn Jane Klukow
Depression And Evangelical Christian Spirituality: Exploring A Theoretical Model, Katheryn Jane Klukow
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
While religious involvement, particularly intrinsic religiosity or spirituality, has shown a significant inverse relationship with depression, this relationship is complex and multifaceted and several decades of study have yet to reveal a clear pattern. This work is a survey of the current research on the etiology and symptomology of depression and its interaction with spirituality. This work is testing a new model that views the effects of depression on spirituality as a function of an individual’s perceived relationship with God. A survey was distributed to a sample of 135 evangelical Christians. Depressed persons made up approximately 16% of the sample. …

Processing Strategies And Recall Performance For Narrative Passages And Word Lists Of Negative And Neutral Affective Valence In Depression, Lora L. Sloan
Theses and Dissertations
Depressed individuals have been found to exhibit memory deficits on tasks that require effortful processing. They have also been found to remember negative materials better than their nondepressed cohorts. While these findings are well-documented, there have been few studies designed to examine how and why these differences in recall occur. The present study examined prose passage and word list recall in depressed and nondepressed college students. Processing times and structure of recall were also examined to assist in determining how material was processed and remembered. Half of the passages and word lists utilized were of negative affective valence and half …
