An Initiative To Improve Ssi Bundle Metrics Adherence Specific To Post-Op Warming And Temperature Documentation Practices In The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Dorothy Vergel
Master's Projects and Capstones
Abstract
Problem: Over the past year, the department failed to meet SSI Bundle Metrics scores consistently due to process identification failures and documentation lapses.
Context: The post-op warming temperature documentation and practices project focused on addressing critical quality issues related to documentation and education gaps in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) microsystem. This project took place in a 249-bed hospital in Northern California, which includes 15 post-surgical bays. The PACU primarily serves patients needing acute care post-surgery, with surgical cases handled, including general surgery, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic and spine surgery, vascular surgery, and urology.
Interventions: The design …

Increasing Sepsis Bundle Compliance Through Nurse Education, Parth S. Papaiya
Master's Projects and Capstones
There exists opportunities for improvement in regards to sepsis management and compliance rates in efforts to reduce sepsis-related complications and incidents in the ED. SEP-1 fallouts and requirements linked to education gaps about sepsis bundle protocols, nurses’ attitudes about implementation of the protocols, and differences in nurse/physician order sets present as deterrents for timely sepsis management and improvements in the rates of compliance/adherence. Denouncing the usage of standardized protocols/use of order sets have been identified as a process gap and a much needed opportunity for improvement. It is presumed that the failure to implement, in addition to improper documentation of …

A Systems Approach to Increase the ICU Nursing Workforce During a Pandemic
Abstract
In early March 2020 an intensive care unit (ICU) patient died of COVID-19 in an integrated healthcare system hospital in Northern California. Data from China and the CDC indicated that more healthcare members would require intensive care and could overwhelm the 21 acute care hospital macrosystem. A microsystem pilot program to upskill peri-anesthesia care unit (PACU) RNs to care for ICU patients was initiated. Concurrently the upskill pilot program was reviewed by macrosystem nursing leadership. Over a three-week period, the program was standardized, disseminated and implemented across …
Improving Preadmission Testing Nurses' Knowledge Of Aortic Stenosis And Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, Alberta Lynn Canale
Improving Preadmission Testing Nurses' Knowledge Of Aortic Stenosis And Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, Alberta Lynn Canale
Master's Projects and Capstones
Abstract
The purpose of this Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) project was to reduce gaps in nursing knowledge through staff education. Guided by the CNL theme of educator and information manager, the goals were to increase PreAdmission Testing (PAT) nurses’ knowledge of severe/critical aortic stenosis (AS), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure and patient selection, and satisfaction with knowledge by 10%. Rapid growth of the TAVR program has contributed to a gap in nursing knowledge leading to inconsistent patient care and education. An educational program was developed and spread through a series of Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles. Pre- and post- implementation surveys were …
