There exists opportunities for improvement in regards to sepsis management and compliance rates in efforts to reduce sepsis-related complications and incidents in the ED. SEP-1 fallouts and requirements linked to education gaps about sepsis bundle protocols, nurses’ attitudes about implementation of the protocols, and differences in nurse/physician order sets present as deterrents for timely sepsis management and improvements in the rates of compliance/adherence. Denouncing the usage of standardized protocols/use of order sets have been identified as a process gap and a much needed opportunity for improvement. Abstract

In early March 2020 an intensive care unit (ICU) patient died of COVID-19 in an integrated healthcare system hospital in Northern California. Data from China and the CDC indicated that more healthcare members would require intensive care and could overwhelm the 21 acute care hospital macrosystem. A microsystem pilot program to upskill peri-anesthesia care unit (PACU) RNs to care for ICU patients was initiated. Abstract

The purpose of this Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) project was to reduce gaps in nursing knowledge through staff education. Guided by the CNL theme of educator and information manager, the goals were to increase PreAdmission Testing (PAT) nurses’ knowledge of severe/critical aortic stenosis (AS), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure and patient selection, and satisfaction with knowledge by 10%. Rapid growth of the TAVR program has contributed to a gap in nursing knowledge leading to inconsistent patient care and education. An educational program was developed and spread through a series of Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles. Pre- and post- implementation surveys were …
