The findings described in this article are part of a broader scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) project examining competencies for intraprofessional practice. We identified the educational and professional learning contexts where occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants developed competencies for intraprofessional collaboration. Practitioners were recruited via snowball sampling and responded to an online survey about competencies for intraprofessional practice. Respondents (N = 465) identified learning contexts that contributed to the development of each competency, selecting up to three choices: Class in Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, Fieldwork, Formal Work Training, Work Experience, Continuing Education Course, and …

Kristin Brubaker, a licensed occupational therapist in the University Place School District, proposed the following question to a student research team: “What are the student, therapist, and teacher outcomes of different school-based service delivery models?” Following a review of 22 articles with qualitative and quantitative methods, studies were grouped into three categories of school-based service delivery models: collaborative-consultative, mixed, and direct. Background: The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction survey, the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program, and the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Initiative in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are affecting expectations of professionalism in health care. These initiatives and shifts in expectations are especially concerning for occupational therapists whose services historically have not been well understood.

Method: Eighteen supervisory and managerial occupational therapy practitioners were interviewed regarding perceptions of professionalism in occupational therapy employees. Occupational therapists in various settings share a professional identity valuing occupation. Their socialization into a practice setting is context-dependent, in terms of the skills needed and roles to be enacted. Collaboration between occupational therapists in clinical and academic settings benefits each participant, along with presenting challenges given the systems where they work. The purpose of this project was to delve into understanding the culture of the settings (academic and clinical) influencing a community-based research partnership.
