Master of Science in Nursing Final Projects
Abstract
Aim: The aim of this integrative review is to explore barriers to early detection in women experiencing postpartum hemorrhage.
Background: Women in the United States are more likely to die from childbirth complications than any other women living in other developed countries. Despite advances in maternity care, postpartum hemorrhage is the cause of nearly 70,000 maternal deaths every year, comparable to one woman dying of postpartum hemorrhage blood loss every eight minutes. Most maternal deaths are avoidable, as the solutions to prevent and manage these deadly complications are well known. Risk factors, assessment tools, causes, interventions, and outcomes are …
The Impact Of Infectious Disease Education On The Knowledge And Confidence Of Assisted Living Staff, Kathryn Joy Smith
The Impact Of Infectious Disease Education On The Knowledge And Confidence Of Assisted Living Staff, Kathryn Joy Smith
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Infectious disease outbreaks, like COVID-19, often catch much of the world by surprise, including health care workers. Health care workers faced deficits in training, resources, and staffing when responding to the pandemic. Staff of assisted living facilities fared even worse, with limited infectious disease education, infection control policies, and access to and training on personal protective equipment. Assisted living staff must have a protocol in place and have sufficient education on infectious diseases so they are prepared to respond and provide quality care to residents, should an outbreak occur. The purpose of this scholarly project was to examine the effects …

The Lived Experience Of Second-Degree Nursing Students’ Anxiety Before And During Their Initial Clinical Rotation, Shelly Wheatley
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones
Anxiety in nursing students can impact learning. Literature has shown that nursing students, especially those in second-degree nursing programs, report higher stress levels compared to other undergraduate students (Penprase & Koczara, 2009). Nursing clinicals can be jarring for students and present many stressors that can impeded learning and cause poor clinical performance. Much research has been done about traditional undergraduate students’ feelings of anxiety. There is a noted gap in research of second-degree, accelerated nursing students and their feelings about their initial clinical placement. Comparisons have often been made between traditional and nontraditional students, but the lived experiences of second-degree …

Executive Summary: Adapting the AHA’s blood pressure and nutrition management program into digestible teaching plans for low-income communities
According to the American Heart Association (AHA), 46% of American adults have high blood pressure (Whelton et al., 2017). High blood pressure, especially for those above the age of 50, is associated with a higher prevalence of heart disease and a shorter life expectancy. The AHA’s Check Change Control program (CCC), is an evidence based, self-directed blood pressure management guide (American Heart Association, 2021). The CCC program incorporates four lesson topics related to lifestyle changes to manage hypertension. The four topics are: …
