Health Risk Appriaisal (HRA) is gaining widespread popularity as a health promotion strategy. Yet there are limited studies to date to assess the impact of HRA on health behavior, particularly among young populations. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effectiveness of individual HRA results as a stimulus for young adults to pursue health promoting behavior. It was hypothesized that young adults exposed to the results of their personal HRA would demonstrate a significantly higher health habits change score than would young adults given the HRA, but not exposed to its results.

One area in which culture is particularly pervasive is during childbirth and the surrounding period . ( Brownlee 1978, p. 1 98 ) In particular, the role of the father is thought to be especially susceptible to cultural influences because he is less biologically-linked to the infant than the mother. ( Clark 1 978, p. 15 ; May 1978, p. 8 ) However, no studies were found that examine the role of the father from a cultural group during childbirth and the neonatal period. A national resolution to alter the educational and practice requirements for nurses by 1985 has been adopted in Oregon. It has been theorized that how nurses organize their multiple roles and the degrees of role deprivation they experience will affect their views toward professional issues. Prior research suggests there be a relationship between certain demographic variables and nurses' role organization and role deprivation.

This study was a descriptive survey establishing a baseline level of self-esteem and health locus of control in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) adolescents. The purpose of the research was to study and describe health behaviors of IDDM adolescents in regards to self-concept and health locus of control. These behaviors are believed to have life-long ramifications on the IDDM adolescent's health status.

The sample consisted of 91 IDDM adolescents, 34 male and 57 female, in a nonrandom convenience cluster attending a 10-day summer camp.

The purpose of this research was to investigate whether nurse practitioners (NPs) desired to function collaboratively in a close relationship with a physician. The researcher also attempted to see if the tasks that NPs desired or believed themselves capable of performing were appropriate for the role as determined by a panel of authorities . A researcher-designed questionnaire was distributed to all licensed Mississippi NPs at the March meeting of NPs in Louisville, Mississippi , who volunteered to participate . The purpose of this descriptive study was to determine if a correlation exists between the health beliefs of black females and participation in screening for cervical cancer. It was hypothesized that when health beliefs of black females were compared to participation in Papanicolaou test screening programs, there would be no significant correlation. To test the hypothesis, 60 women from the rural Black Belt region of Alabama and ranging in age from 19 to 60 or more years were administered a researcher-designed questionnaire .
