Nurse Led Staff Education Program For Workplace Stress Reduction, Ebony Sudduth
Nurse Led Staff Education Program For Workplace Stress Reduction, Ebony Sudduth
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This doctoral project evaluated the impact of a staff education program aimed at increasing healthcare workers' awareness of workplace stress dangers among teammates in an outpatient hemodialysis center. The identified practice issue was limited knowledge about the facilitators, adverse outcomes, and resources related to occupational stress in healthcare. Lack of education regarding the risks of work-related stress presents a critical concern in nursing practice, significantly affecting caregiver well-being and patient outcomes. Nurses, particularly in high-pressure environments such as hemodialysis centers, often experience unrecognized and unmanaged emotional and physical demands, leading to chronic stress and burnout. Hemodialysis nurses are especially susceptible …

Project Narrative
PURPOSE AND NEED
Purpose: Priorities set forth by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) are addressed in the proposed simulation program in an effort to meet curricular needs and foster care to the medically underserved in Florida, further exposing students to public healthcare needs. Interprofessional (nursing and social work) and intraprofessional (undergraduate nurse and Nurse Practitioner [NP]) instruction is essential in the simulation-based education (SBE) program, promoting important content on identifying risk factors and health assessment of the medically underserved community (MUC) (Education Priority 2, §831). Coordination of medical care is a vicarious learning opportunity for all …

Staff Education To Improve Nurses’ Knowledge On Medication Administration Error Prevention, Francoise Tabe
Staff Education To Improve Nurses’ Knowledge On Medication Administration Error Prevention, Francoise Tabe
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This staff education project aimed to enhance nurses’ knowledge on medication administration error prevention through targeted education interventions. Medication administration errors are a significant concern in health care, leading to patient harm and reduced quality of care. This project addressed the gap in nursing knowledge regarding strategies to prevent these errors, with the goal of improving patient safety and outcomes. The practice-focused question explored in this project was the following: How does implementing an education program affect nurses’ knowledge and practices related to medication error prevention? The purpose of this doctoral project was to educate nurses on best practices for …

Paediatrics and Child Health, East Africa
Health Facility Assessments (HFAs) are important for measuring and tracking service readiness for small and sick newborn care (SSNC). NEST360 Alliance aims to reduce neonatal mortality in four countries (Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania). NEST360 and UNICEF facilitated HFA tool design with ministries of health in four African countries and developed two complimentary approaches to summarize readiness. Using the NEST360/UNICEF HFA tool, we collected data, developed two service readiness scoring approaches for SSNC (standards-based scoring by adapted World Health Organization (WHO) health system building blocks (HSBBs) and assessing service readiness across the health system, and level-2+ scoring by WHO clinical interventions), …

College of Nursing Faculty Research and Publications
Community engagement is a pivotal public health tool for addressing population health challenges and advancing health equity. Community–academic partnerships that use community-engaged approaches can prioritize community strengths and ensure that resources and interventions match local needs. In 2021–2022, a community-academic partnership, guided by the principles of community engagement, collaborated with residents of Milwaukee’s Near West Side (NWS) to identify strengths and assets and prioritize actions to improve health and quality of life. To inform the development of a planned community resource center, residents were invited for group concept mapping (GCM).

Approximately 1 million children with medical complexity (CMC) live in the United States, and although their health care needs comprise 40% of child health costs, most of their care is provided at home by their parents and other family caregivers. Around-the-clock care encompasses direct medical care, including administration of medications and nutrition, care coordination and supplies management, emotional work of vigilance and worry, financial planning, and more. This intensive caregiving offers meaning and joy for many of those parents, yet its constancy can threaten their emotional well-being, physical health, and financial security, presumedly negatively influencing their capacity to provide care …

Development And Validation Of Competencies For Home-Based Nursing Care: An E-Delphi Study, Khairul Dzakirin Bin Rusli, Ying Lau, Siew Tiang Lau, Laura Schmidt Tham, Michelle Mong Nee Kee, Qi Wen Ng, Shu Fen Ong, Karen Strickland, Sok Ying Liaw
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Background: The expected competencies of nurses in home-based care remain unclear. A list of professional competencies that are agreed upon by a panel of content expert are needed to offer some form of standardized expectations among nurses and home-based care stakeholders. Objectives: To evaluate the content validity of the professional competencies identified for home-based nursing care. Design: An e-Delphi method was used. Settings: A purposive sampling of local and international experts in home-based nursing care or community nursing. Methods: Preliminary competency items were developed inductively from earlier studies and deductively by a steering committee. Sixteen experts performed two rounds of …

Support Networks And Care Needs: Insights From Older Vietnam-Born Australians Living With Chronic Disease, Thi Ngoc Minh Nguyen, Rosemary Saunders, Gordana Dermody, Lisa Whitehead
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This study explored the support networks and care needs of older Vietnam-born adults living in Australia, using focused ethnography, and guided by Leininger's Culture Care theory. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews over 7 months in Perth, Western Australia, and analyzed thematically. Twelve participants were included. Two themes emerged: “The collectivist context of disease management” and “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Chronic disease self-management primarily took place within family and community settings, with ethnic communities playing a significant role. Migration-related stigma influenced perceived care needs, creating a gap between perceived and actual support. Findings …
