Duplicated Laboratory Tests : A Hospital Audit And Evaluation Of A Computerized Alert Intervention, Sharon Bridges Jan 2011

Duplicated Laboratory Tests : A Hospital Audit And Evaluation Of A Computerized Alert Intervention, Sharon Bridges

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Laboratory testing is necessary when it contributes to the overall clinical management of the patient. Redundant testing, however, is often unnecessary and expensive and contributes to overall reductions in healthcare system efficiency. The purpose of this study is two-fold. First, to evaluate the frequency of ordering duplicate laboratory tests in hospitalized patients and the costs associated with this practice. Second, it was designed to determine if the use of a computerized alert or prompt will reduce the total number of unnecessarily duplicated Acute Hepatitis Profile (AHP) laboratory tests. This two-phase study took place in an inpatient facility that was part …

Addicted Youth: The Understanding Of Smoking-Related Health Risks In Female College Students, Rebekah Agnes Ann Morris

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

Young adults are at the greatest risk for initiation of smoking or becoming daily smokers. Smoking has a unique history in the United States and is associated with health risks beyond heart disease and lung cancer, many specifically affecting women. Although the majority of people are aware of the risks for heart disease and lung cancer, many other risks are not recognized. By evaluating the known knowledge of smoking-related health risks beyond and including heart disease and lung cancer in the high risk population of female college students, education programs and cessation teaching can be altered, potentially resulting in lower …

Emerging Evidence In Infection Control Effecting Change, Melissa Dawn Machan

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Current procedures for cleaning anesthesia airway equipment have been reported to be ineffective. The potential for cross-contamination from some airway equipment to a patient has been documented in several studies. In order to prevent potential infections, it should be ascertained as to why all anesthesia providers are not using disposable laryngoscope blades. The purpose of this evidence based project is to determine the perceptions of anesthesia providers regarding the use of disposable laryngoscope blades. Their frequency of use, their evaluation of ease of use, and any complications encountered when using the disposable blade before and after an in-service program designed …
