Abstract

A scoping review was undertaken to inform the development of a peer mentoring program in the nursing faculty of an official-language francophone minority post-secondary institution in Western Canada. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with mentorship coordinators in seven undergraduate nursing programs across Canada. The results of the semi-structured interviews were used to corroborate the information gathered during the scoping review.

Analysis of the scoping review showed that the mentoring programs were designed based on a perceived need expressed by faculty and students. All programs involved a multi-stage implementation and evaluation process. Many articles focused on the benefits of implementing mentoring …

Aims: To review the contemporary international literature on nurse preceptor competencies and map the components and their descriptors. Review Methods: A mapping review. Data Sources: Articles reporting evidence-based and validated Registered Nurse (RN) preceptor competencies published between 2013 and 2022 were identified. Open access databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar and the library healthcare databases Scopus and CINAHL were searched. This quality improvement project aims to improve nurse education about Lovenox prophylaxis to reduce the risk of pulmonary emboli – post-discharge – amongst high-risk postpartum women who underwent vaginal and cesarean deliveries on the family baby unit. This project took place in a Family Baby/Postpartum Unit at Hospital SC. This unit has a total of 25 beds with an increased prevalence of pulmonary embolism following cesarean delivery. Background: Supporting preterm infants with mother’s own milk (MOM) can improve health outcomes and decrease mortality.¹ Freshly pumped MOM, within four hours of expression, has the highest availability of bioactive components versus stored MOM. However, fresh milk is often not readily available due to the disconnected process of breastfeeding that occurs with preterm infants in the NICU. One convenient solution to improve access to fresh MOM is for the mother to pump at the infant's bedside.
