A low self-esteem is a critical, pervasive problem in the lives of clients with eating disorders. The purpose of this study was to validate the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis, Disturbance in Self-Esteem, in a specific population group. The purposive, nonprobability sample consisted of 26 females between the ages of 13 and 24 who had a medical diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa. This study addressed the following question: Does the cluster of defining characteristics for Disturbance in Self-Esteem, as defined by NANDA, occur in clients diagnosed as having Anorexia Nervosa; clients in whom a disturbed self-esteem is manifest.

This study is proposed for the purpose of determining if a relationship exists between the functional disability of chronic low back pain (LBP) to depression. In the investigation a random sample of 40-50 clients from area back clinics, at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center and Butterworth Hospital will be selected. The clients who have had LBP over six months will be asked to take a modified Dartmouth Pain Questionnaire (DPQ) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The modified DPQ includes two parts relating to the client's self perception and activity level prior to the LBP event. The self-administered BDI which measures …

The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which executive nurses participate in strategic planning for their institutions,and the extent to which these executive nurses utilize the strategic planning process for their nursing departments. The effect of ownership, size, and educational level of the executive nurse on the extent of participation in institutional strategic planning and the utilization of the strategic planning process for their nursing departments was also examined.

The purpose of this study was to determine: 1) the perceptions of nurse practitioners toward private practice and professional autonomy, and 2) nurse practitioners' behavioral intent towards private practice and professional autonomy. Data were collected with a questionnaire designed by the researcher to measure demographic data, nurse practitioners' perceptions and behavioral intent toward private practice and professional autonomy, and knowledge of legal issues pertaining' to private practice. Of 153 possible respondents, 100 (64%) nurse practitioners in the State of Maryland participated in the study.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not Winslow's typology of definitions of client advocacy in nursing accurately and comprehensively represented the manner in which registered nurses defined the role. The author also hoped to explore contextual factors influencing the lack of consensus among nurses of the client advocacy role.;A survey questionnaire was developed and submitted to a random sample of nurses registered to practice in the state of Virginia. The purpose of this study was to trace the development of nursing education at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing from its inception in 1893 through 1981. The primary focus was on the basic nursing programs which included the diploma, associate degree and baccalaureate programs. Touch--both touching another and being touched--is a primary form of communication. By old age, both the need and the desire for specific amounts and kinds of touching are well established for the individual. The present study was designed to obtain information about what elderly women in nursing and retirement homes report to be liked and disliked types of touching. Participants who volunteered for this study were 32 ambulatory females 65 years of age or older who were living in nursing or retirement homes.
