Trait Anxiety In Female Heads Of Household, Bonnie Martinette Wheeler

Nursing Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this investigation was to determine if being the female head of a single-parent household was associated with increased trait anxiety. Ninety-four female nurses completed the Trait portion of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory developed by Spielberger, Gorsuch, and Lushene (1964) and a demographic inventory. The demographic inventory provided the information regarding marital status and presence or absence of children needed to delineate the sample into four groups: Group I (n=31) married females with dependent children in the home; Group II (n=10) married females with no dependent children in the home; Group III (n=26) single, separated or divorced females …

Predictors Of Appointment-Keeping Behaviors Among Users Of Adult Medical Clinics, Ruth L. Campau Apr 1984

Predictors Of Appointment-Keeping Behaviors Among Users Of Adult Medical Clinics, Ruth L. Campau

Nursing Theses & Dissertations

In a descriptive correlational study, three predictors of appointment keeping behaviors of adults who attend general medical clinics in a primary health care setting were explored. The three selected predictors from the Health Belief Model, a preventive health behavior model, were: (a) perceived barriers to health care, (b) health locus of control (HLC), and (c) satisfaction with health care. The purpose of this study was to identify the predictive value of multiple variables for a specific health-related behavior. Data on the study were collected on a non-probability, purposive sample of 52 users of the adult general medical clinics. The tool …

The Effects Of Selected Personal And Professional Factors On Nurses' Perceptions Of Self-Health, Constance L. Peterson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the affects of selected personal and professional factors on nurses' perceptions of self-health as evaluated by responses to a questionnaire designed for this study. A modification of the Health Belief Model, titled the Health Perception Model, served as the conceptual model for the study.
The sample consisted of 121 registered nurses employed at a 515-bed hospital in a rural Midwestern state. A descriptive correlational design was used.
The study posed thirteen null hypotheses predicting the influence of the variables (concern about health matters in general, subjective estimate of susceptibility to illness, age, …

The Use Of Academic Performance As A Predictor Of Success Of The National Council Licensing Examination, Patricia O. Dardis Jan 1984

The Use Of Academic Performance As A Predictor Of Success Of The National Council Licensing Examination, Patricia O. Dardis

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between a baccalaureate nursing student's academic performance and scores received on the National Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN); and to develop an equation to predict NCLEX-RN scores.
The sample consisted of 25 generic students who graduated in 1982 and 1983 from a small private baccalaureate liberal arts college located in the Midwest. An Ex Post Facto research design, using twenty independent variables that relate to academic performance (ACT, CPA, and NLN scores), and one dependent variable (NCLEX-RN), was utilized. Statistical analysis using Pearson's - r and Multiple Regression Analysis …

The Relationship Between Oral Contraceptives And Intraepithelial Neoplasia Of The Uterine Cervix, Barbara Jeannette Fox Jan 1984

The Relationship Between Oral Contraceptives And Intraepithelial Neoplasia Of The Uterine Cervix, Barbara Jeannette Fox

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between specific oral contraceptive use and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), and to determine if duration of use and content of oral contraceptives were related to CIN. The hypotheses tested in this study were: (1) norgestrel-containing oral contraceptives are associated with more severe levels of CIN, and (2) longer duration of oral contraceptive use is associated with more severe CIN.

Data was collected from 52 clinical records of clients who attended a colposcopy clinic during a four month period. Clients included in the study were utilizing one of five specific oral …
