Patient Compliance Through Education For Type 2 Diabetics On New Medications: Sglt-2 Inhibitors And Glp-1 Analogues, Lindsay Hachat, Carlin Clark, Tiffani Chew, Jocelyn Hayes

Scholars Day Conference

Objective: Type 2 diabetics have a higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease complications (Glovaci et al., 2019). Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 9.9% of Type II Diabetics which represents 50.3% of all deaths related to Type II Diabetes Mellitus (Einarson et al., 2017). Across the world, cardiovascular disease affects approximately 32.2% of all people with Type II Diabetes Mellitus (Einarson et al., 2017). This begs the question: in individuals with type 2 diabetes, does medication education on Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter 2 inhibitors, or SGLT-2 inhibitors, and Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Agonists, or GLP-1 agonists, increase patient compliance with medication by medication …

The Effect Of Social Media Education In Preventing Smoking In Adolescents To Reduce The Incidence Of Copd, Adam Lott, Sarah Hankins, Kloe Parsons, Paige Tankersley

Scholars Day Conference

Objective: Smoking is the leading cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and can lead to other health problems like cardiovascular disease, type two diabetes, and lung cancer (World Health Organization, 2024). The population chosen for the study is adolescents aged 10-19 because smokers normally start smoking on a routine basis before the age of twenty (Reitsma, 2021). The research question is: what is the effect of social media education in preventing smoking in adolescents to reduce the incidence of COPD?

Methods: A literature review was conducted to explore evidence-based best practices for social media education using ProQuest and Google …

Review Of Literature To Investigate Evidence Based Research For Military Members Living With Copd, Constance Ecker, Hannah Crosswhite, Lauren Jamell Apr 2024

Review Of Literature To Investigate Evidence Based Research For Military Members Living With Copd, Constance Ecker, Hannah Crosswhite, Lauren Jamell

Scholars Day Conference

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that causes airflow blockage and breathing-related problems. COPD causes fatigue, breathing difficulty, impaired oxygenation, mucous production, and wheezing. Centers for Disease Control states that there are 14.2 million U.S. adults diagnosed with COPD (CDC, 2021). There is an estimated 8% to 19% of military personnel diagnosed with COPD (Bamonti et al, 2022). Military personnel are at risk for COPD complications related to increased chemicals and poor air quality exposure. This literature review explored educational interventions to reduce COPD complications for military members. The research question for this project is: What are the …

Effects Of Exercise, Calcium And Vitamin D On Those 65 And Older Living With Osteoporosis, Mackenzie Amaya, Leah Miller, Olivia Dixon, Riley Kratz

Scholars Day Conference

Objective: There are 37 million fractures that occur annually around the world which is equal to 70 fractures per minute (Epidemiology Of Osteoporosis And Fragility Fractures, 2024). It is estimated the mortality rate following a hip fracture is 20-40% within one year (Epidemiology of osteoporosis and fragility fractures, 2024). A literature review was performed to explore primary prevention techniques for reducing osteoporotic hip fractures. This guided the research question: "In individuals aged 65 and older living with osteoporosis, what is the effectiveness of calcium with vitamin D supplementation and weight-bearing exercises in reducing the occurrence of osteoporotic hip fractures?"

Methods: …
