Background and Aim: Metabolic diseases, such as chronic low-grade inflammation, insulin resistance and adipocyte hypertrophy have been linked to obesity. The influence of perioperative probiotic administration on bariatric surgery yielded conflicting results. We directed this randomized controlled study to outline the effects of probiotic administration on the effects of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Patients and Methods: This randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study included 83 cases, undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, to take either probiotics or placebo.
