Background/aim: Avascular necrosis (AVN) is the death of bone due to compromise of blood flow. The etiology of AVN is multifactorial; corticosteroid usage is the second most significant factor after trauma, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common underlying disease. The objective of this study was to assess the factors of AVN in SLE patients. Materials and methods: The study included 127 patients with SLE who fulfilled 1997 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) revised criteria. Demographic data, age at SLE diagnosis, disease duration, disease activity, body mass index, clinical findings, antiphospholipid syndrome, steroid usage, dose and duration, comorbid …

Background/aim: The objective in this study is to assess the short-term effects of a single-session mobilization in addition to subacromial corticosteroid (SACS) injection in impingement syndrome.Materials and methods: The study was designed as a prospective randomized controlled single-blind, parallel group clinical trial. Patients (totally 84) were divided randomly into two groups equally. Forty-two patients in Group 1 received mobilization and SACS injection, whereas 42 patients in Group 2 only received SACS injections. A single SACS injection was applied in all patients. Mobilization was administered as a single session right after SACS injection. Patient' evaluations were performed measuring active range of …

Background/aim: Thin and flexible flaps are needed for the repair of extremity tissue defects. Serratus fascia flaps are the most suitable options. There are only a few case reports and case series in the literature. We have aimed to increase the success rate by taking the serratus fascia flaps together with some muscle tissue for the repair of extremity tissue defects. Materials and methods: Between 2006 and 2015, 12 free serratus musculofascial flaps (FSMFFs) were transferred to 11 patients (8 males, 3 females) who had tissue shallow defects of the extremities due to different etiologic factors. The mean age was …
