To examine the prevalence of anaemia in Meghalaya, India, by exploring the 2005-2006 National Family Health Survey (NFHS -3) data. Materials and methods: The study population consisted of 3934 ever-married women of reproductive age (15-49 years) from the state Meghalaya, India, which were taken from the NFHS-3 survey, to explore the predictors responsible for the prevalence of anaemia by using different background characteristics such as age, place of residence, nutritional status, number of children ever born, pregnancy status, educational achievement, and economic status. As a response variable, anaemia levels were categorised as a dichotomous variable, and the predicted probabilities were …

Restricted Universal Guidelines For Rop Screening: A Possible Misguidance For Middle Income Countries, Ömer Erdeve, Begüm Atasay, Saadet Arsan, Fi̇gen Batuoğlu, Huban Ati̇lla, Tomri̇s Türmen

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The objective of all studies evaluating retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening criteria has been to minimize the number of infants screened while missing no patients with ROP who required treatment. Studies supporting the recommendation that screening for ROP could be restricted to infants born at less than 30 weeks of gestation with birth weights of less than 1250 g have been reported recently, especially from Western countries. However, with the lack of local outcome data, application of the new restricted screening guidelines to infants in middle income countries may lead to misguidance. We aimed to investigate ROP screening requirements in …

Gastric Volvulus Due To Diaphragmatic Eventration And Paraesophageal Hernia, Nuretti̇n Özgür Doğan, Gökhan Aksel, Ahmet Demi̇rcan, Ayfer Keleş, Fi̇kret Bi̇ldi̇k Jan 2010

Gastric Volvulus Due To Diaphragmatic Eventration And Paraesophageal Hernia, Nuretti̇n Özgür Doğan, Gökhan Aksel, Ahmet Demi̇rcan, Ayfer Keleş, Fi̇kret Bi̇ldi̇k

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Acute gastric volvulus occurs when the stomach or a part of it rotates more than 180 degrees. It is a potentially life-threatening entity and most cases of gastric volvulus occur in association with eventration of left hemidiaphragm or a hiatal hernia. Gastric volvulus is a rare condition and presents with nonspecific epigastric pain and vomiting, and therefore may be missed. Chest x-ray and CT can help the diagnosis. Emergent surgical approach is mandatory. Two elderly patients admitted to ED with epigastric pain and intractable vomiting did not respond to the treatment and we were not able to pass nasogastric tube. …
