Background/aim: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 has not been precisely known in bronchoscopy procedures. We have designed a cabinet device called Ankara University Bronchoscopy Cabinet (Aubrocab® ) to protect healthcare. We aimed to evaluate preventing effect of Aubrocab® on aerosol spreading by measuring the particles in the bronchoscopy suite. Materials and methods: The patients were categorized into two groups as those who underwent bronchoscopy with and without Aubrocab® . We measured PM 0.5 levels before and after bronchoscopy in the bronchoscopy suite. Results: A total of 82 patients, 62 of whom underwent bronchoscopy with Aubrocab® …

Background/aim: A successful planning methodology for patients with hemoptysis promises overall improvement in patient care. Conducted in a reference center for chest diseases, the present study aims to analyze characteristics and predictors of interventional methods in patients with recurrent hemoptysis. Materials and methods: The present study is a single-center, retrospective observational study. Between 2015 and 2018, 5973 patients with follow-up data until 2021 requiring more than one hospitalization due to recurrent hemoptysis were investigated. Patient characteristics, the amount of hemoptysis, baseline admission parameters, interventional procedures of bronchial artery embolization (BAE), fiberoptic bronchoscopy, rigid bronchoscopy, and surgical resections applied were analyzed …

To prospectively compare the sensitivity of Wang 22-gauge needle aspiration and 19-gauge needle aspiration with bronchial biopsy and determine whether there was difference between 22-gauge and 19-gauge needle aspirations in the diagnosis of endobronchial malignancies. Materials and methods: All patients (63 patients) in the study underwent fiberoptic bronchoscopy that included 22-gauge needle aspiration and 19-gauge needle aspiration. In 50 patients bronchial biopsy was done. The sensitivities of the individual techniques were compared. Results: Cancer was diagnosed in 48 patients by 22-gauge needle aspiration and 19-gauge needle aspiration, and in 43 patients by bronchial biopsy. The sensitivity of bronchial biopsy was …
