To investigate the effects of adding methylprednisolone to low-potassium dextran solution on cold-preserved ischemic lungs. Materials and methods: The study included 42 rat lung blocks that were divided into 7 groups (n = 6). Lung blocks were preserved in 40 mL of cold Perfadex solution, to which 5, 15, 30, 60, and 120 mg kg-1 (approximately 40, 120, 240, 480, and 960 mg L-1) of methylprednisolone were added. After a 24-h preservation period, the lungs were removed from the solution and examined. Morphine Modulates Microvascular Leakage Dose-Dependently In The Airway Of Ovalbumin-Sensitized Rats, Seyfullah Oktay Arslan

To investigate the effect of morphine on ovalbumin-evoked airway microvascular leakage in sensitized rats. Materials and methods: Rats were sensitized on days 0, 14, and 21 with ovalbumin. Intravenous ovalbumin (2 mg/kg) or capsaicin (50 µg/kg) increased the extravasation of Evans blue dye in trachea, bronchi, and intra-pulmonary tissues of sensitized rats. Results: Morphine (1-10 mg/kg) inhibited ovalbumin-evoked increase in microvascular plasma leakage in a dose-dependent manner; however, it had no significant effect at the doses of 0.1 or 30 mg/kg. To evaluate the protective effect of selenium on intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury due to intussusception. Materials and methods: Forty Wistar albino rats were allocated to 4 equal groups (n = 10). After anesthetization, 2 cm of intestinal segment, 20 cm proximal to the ileocecal valve, was removed in the control group (CG). To investigate the effect of Viscum album, a plant used for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma that has immune-modulating properties, on acute hepatic injury in rats. Materials and methods: Hepatotoxicity was induced by CCl_4 orally (0.28 mL/kg). Rats received either Viscum album at 1 of 2 dose levels (0.1 or 0.2 mL/kg) once weekly subcutaneously alone or with silymarin (25 mg/kg, orally), or silymarin (25 mg/kg) once daily orally for 1 month, starting at the time of administration of CCl_4.
