BACKGROUND: Medication prescribing errors remain a leading cause of preventable patient harm in ambulatory care. This study examined whether the severity, frequency, and distribution of medication prescribing errors differ between residents and attendings in outpatient settings to inform graduate medical education (GME) and system-level medication safety strategies.

METHODS: This retrospective observational study was conducted across a multi-specialty ambulatory care network. Due to persistent barriers in the medical system, LGBTQIA2S+ people in America face harmful healthcare disparities. Healthcare providers’ ability to work with LGBTQIA2S+ patients is a critical component of mitigating this harm. While forms of provider education have begun to address the need for culturally compassionate LGBTQIA2S+ medical care, there appears to be an underutilized opportunity to introduce these concepts in undergraduate settings. This article examines more than 150 instances in which Billy Joel’s lyrics have been used to improve the accessibility of legal and medical scholarship. Legal and medical professionals have used the words of the “Piano Man” to discuss a variety of topics—everything from civil procedure to property rights and the COVID-19 pandemic to colorectal surgery. This project proposes a nurse-led pilot of AI-supported predictive mobility monitoring on a cardiac medical-surgical unit, to improve early identification of high-risk mobility behaviors and enhance patient safety. Current fall-prevention strategies, such as bed alarms and virtual sitters, often alert staff after unsafe movement has begun, creating a reactive cycle that contributes to alarm fatigue and delayed intervention (Abbe & O’Keeffe, 2020). Background Burnout is a psychological syndrome that arises from chronic workplace stress that has not been effectively managed. It is characterized by emotional exhaustion, increased mental distance or cynicism toward one’s work, and a sense of reduced professional efficacy (WHO, 2019). Due to the long work hours, high workload, and extensive training demands, medical residents are particularly vulnerable to experiencing burnout, contributing to higher rates of anxiety and depression. Burnout typically emerges mid-intern year and progresses through the remainder of residency. Burnout can contribute to higher medical errors, decreased work efficiency, and poor patient-physician interactions.

To quantify scan duration across commonly performed obstetric ultrasound examinations in a tertiary fetal imaging center and to evaluate whether exam type, maternal body mass index (BMI), and sonographer experience independently influence scan time.

Methods

We conducted a retrospective cohort study of singleton pregnancies undergoing diagnostic obstetric ultrasound between January 2023 and May 2024 at a high-volume tertiary care center. Ultrasounds were categorized into five exam types: dating/viability (6-10 weeks), detailed first-trimester (11-14 weeks), detailed second-trimester anatomic survey (18-22 weeks), fetal echocardiography (22-24 weeks), and second/third-trimester growth/Doppler (24-38 weeks) scans. Traditional methods to learn soft-tissue surgical procedures rely on cadaver labs or patient-based learning, which are costly and geographically limited, and raise ethical questions. Virtual reality (VR) with haptic feedback offers a scalable alternative, but most current platforms emphasize bone-based rather than soft-tissue procedures learned by feel. We developed a VR+haptic simulation for preoperative training of retropubic midurethral sling (MUS) surgery. Background: While blended teaching is approved in Rwandan medical education, the perceived effectiveness of online-only delivery for physiology modules remains unclear. This uncertainty limits its continued use. The present study assessed Rwandan health sciences students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of online teaching for physiology modules.

Concerns persist within the surgical community that completion of an accredited surgical residency no longer consistently ensures that trainees are ready for independent practice. In response, the Independent Committee for Graduate Surgical Education (ICGSE) was established in January 2025 to address the unique requirements of surgical training. The committee’s mandate was to recommend program standards that would potentially optimize education and training for surgical residents, with the goal of improving patient care.

Patients boarding in the ED are demonstrated to use a disproportionate percentage of facility resources with minimal benefit to the patient. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement identifies the impact of the healthcare environment on patient outcomes and suggests staff training to foster trauma-informed practice culture (Schall et al., 2020).

Purpose: This study investigated how medical students – as future physicians – perceive the relevance of Mintzberg’s ten managerial roles to physician leadership, and whether these perceptions change throughout medical education.

Method: In 2021, all first‑year (n = 116/116) and 98% of final‑year (n = 107/109) students at the University of Oulu, Finland completed a web‑based survey rating Mintzberg’s ten managerial roles in fulfilling physician leaders’ leadership work on a 5‑point Likert scale. Item reliability and internal consistency were examined with Cronbach’s α.
